Weekly Notes: All-Star notes and Futures game
- Manuel Margot and Rafael Devers (pictured, right) each went hitless in two at-bats at the All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, but told Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com they were "proud" to represent the Red Sox organization on the World Futures. Margot was the starting center fielder for the World players and was lifted after the fifth inning. Devers entered the game as a replacement at third base in the sixth inning. He struck out looking to end the game. The U.S. Futures crushed the World Futures, 10-1.
- Portland's William Cuevas was named the starting pitcher for the East Division in the Eastern League All-Star Game to be held at the home of the Sea Dogs, Hadlock Field, on July 15, according to a release. Cuevas is 8-5 with a 3.40 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 16 starts.
- Sea Dogs pitcher Madison Younginer was added the East Division roster for the Eastern League All-Star Game, according to a team release. Younginer replaces Binghamton Mets pitcher Luis Cessa, who was promoted to Triple-A. The Sea Dogs now have six players on the All-Star squad: Younginer, Cuevas, Carlos Asuaje, Marco Hernandez, Robby Scott and Jantzen Witte.
- In case you missed it, left-handed starter Brian Johnson was called up to Boston to replace the injured Clay Buchholz.
- Five Red Sox prospects were listed on the Baseball America midseason Top 50 prospects list. Yoan Moncada was listed at No. 11, Rafael Devers at No. 15, Manuel Margot at No. 24, Brian Johnson at No. 38 and Henry Owens at No. 47.
- Greenville Online profiled the recent signs of a turnaround for Yoan Moncada and Michael Chavis since the Single-A All-Star break, possibly due to the change in their spots in the lineup. The article also features South Carolina native and Greenville pitcher Jamie Callahan.
- WEEI.com featured some of the up-and-coming pitchers in the system at Low and High-A. Specifically, writer Ryan Hannable interviewed Trey Ball, Michael Kopech, Ty Buttrey and Teddy Stankiewicz.
- Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald speculated which prospects the Red Sox could possibly deal at the July 31 trade deadline. He says that Jackie Bradley Jr. could be at the top of that list.
