Travis to represent Salem as Carolina League All-Star

Salem Red Sox first baseman Sam Travis has been selected as a Carolina League All-Star and will play in the California vs. Carolina League All-Star Game. The game will be held on June 23, and will be played in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, home of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

Travis was the Red Sox second round pick in the 2014 draft out of Indiana University. He was a SoxProspects.com Pre-Season All-Star and is currently ranked 16th here at SoxProspects.com. Travis is having a tremendous season so far, batting .303/.366/.433 with three home runs, eight stolen bases, and 31 RBI in 235 plate appearances. Among players with at least 140 at-bats, Travis ranks first for Salem in OPS with a .799 mark.

The 6-foot, 210 pound right-handed hitter has hit well at each level. In 2014 he posted an .813 OPS in 40 games for Lowell, and an .826 OPS in 27 games for Greenville. Travis is a little bit undersized for a first baseman, but he has the potential to be a solid power hitter, as well as a good contact hitter. He is also known to be a hard worker and a guy who will give up his body for the team, as evidenced by him playing through his sophomore season in college with a broken hamate bone. That hard work has paid off so far, earning him a well-deserved spot on the Carolina League All-Star team.
