Cup of Coffee: Travis powers Salem, Bradley plays hero in Pawtucket

6/13 Cup of Coffee: Pawtucket fans were sent home happy, courtesy of a walk-off victory. Despite a great attempt at a comeback, Portland fell just short against Bowie. Salem was lifted by a massive performance from an All-Star, and Greenville won an offensive tussle thanks to the power of their shortstop. Despite a notable pitching performance, neither DSL team was able to pull out a win Friday.

Pawtucket Red Sox 3, Toledo Mud Hens (DET) 2

Jackie Bradley Jr. played the hero Friday night, lacing a two-out, walk-off RBI double, giving Pawtucket its third straight victory. Bradley was a spark plug for the offense at the top of the order, going 2 for 2 with two double, two walks and an RBI. The center fielder is now hitting .333/.407/.500 with four home runs and 14 RBI.

Keith Couch pitched the first six innings for the PawSox, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks in a no decision. Noe Ramirez pitched a scoreless twelfth to pick up the victory.

Bowie BaySox (BAL) 8, Portland Sea Dogs 7

Despite a five run ninth inning, the Sea Dogs dug too deep of an initial hole and were unable to topple the BaySox. Heri Quevedo was torched for seven runs on seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings of work. Mike McCarthy followed Quevedo in relief, allowing a run on three hits in 3 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. John Cornely added two scoreless innings of relief.

Down 8-2 in the ninth, the Sea Dogs plated five on an RBI triple by Marco Hernandez, a throwing error, a Jantzen Witte two-run home run, and a Jonathan Roof RBI single. Hernandez was a home run short of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a double, triple and an RBI. The Sea Dogs are now 0-4 this season against Bowie.

Salem Red Sox 4, Wilmington Blue Rocks (KC) 2

The top of the Red Sox order did it all Friday night, going 9 for 15 (5-9 hitters 0 for 16), propelling the Red Sox to victory. Sam Travis(pictured, above), fresh off of his All-Star selection, was 4 for 4 with what turned out to be a decisive, three-run home run in the fifth inning. Manuel Margot was 3 for 4 from atop the order.

Denny Bautista picked up his third victory on the season, tossing seven solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out two. Taylor Grover pitched two flawless innings of relief to record his second save on the season.

Greenville Drive 10, Rome Braves (ATL) 8

Greenville used a seven-run second inning to drive past the Braves 10-8. Javier Guerra was easily the offensive star, going 2 for 4 with four RBI and a pair of home runs. The 19-year-old shortstop is now hitting .292/.348/.515 with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 48 games. Carlos Pinales allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in four innings of relief to pick up the victory. Ryan Harris pitched a flawless ninth inning to record his second save.

DSL Twins 8, DSL Red Sox1 6

Roniel Raudes pitched well for the Red Sox, allowing just one run on five hits in five innings of work. Four Red Sox errors led to four unearned runs, ultimately the difference in the contest. The Red Sox only mustered six hits, but took seven walks. Luis Benoit was 2 for 2 with an RBI to lead the offense. 

DSL Marlins 3, DSL Red Sox2 1 
Anderson Espinoza made his third start of the season and continued to dazzle, pitching four scorless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while punching out six. The 17-year-old right-hander has not picked up a win, but has a 0.82 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. Stanley Espinal and Gerardo Carrizalez both had two hits to lead the Red Sox offense.

Player of the Night: Sam Travis, who was 4 for 4 with a game-winning, three-run home run in Salem's 4-2 win over Wilmington. The 2014 second round pick is now hitting .316/.377/.462 with four home runs and 34 RBI in 57 games this season.
