Cup of Coffee: Greenville players leave mark on All-Star Game

Pawtucket Red Sox 5, Rochester Red Wings (MIN) 3
Keith Couch held Rochester hitless for six innings, but the PawSox needed a clutch, two-run single by Carlos Peguero to beat back the Red Wings. Couch settled for a no-decision, despite only allowing an unearned run on an error and a walk in the first six innings. Couch allowed the tying runs to score before Dalier Hinojosa bailed him out and picked up the win. Dayan Diaz earned the two-inning save after a 69 minute rain delay. Jackie Bradley Jr. and Deven Marrero each had a big night at the plate. Both players had identical nights, going 3 for 4 with a double, one RBI and a run scored. Ryan Hanigan also hit well in his second rehab appearance, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored as the designated hitter. Hanigan is expected to catch on Friday.

Portland Sea Dogs 7, New Hampshire Fisher Cats (TOR) 2
Three different Sea Dogs clubbed home runs in Portland's first trip to the Granite State this year. Carlos Asuaje and David Chester each smacked solo homers in the first inning. Asuaje also swiped his fourth base of the year. Shortstop Marco Hernandez had a big night out of the leadoff spot, poking a two-run homer to right in the second and collecting a two-run double in the sixth. Starter William Cuevas improved to 7-4 on the season, going five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while walking two and striking out four.

California League All-Stars 9, Carolina League All-Stars 2
Sam Travis was the lone player to represent Salem on the Carolina League All-Stars. He played the entire All-Star Game at first base, going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. Travis knocked the California League starter out of the game in the first inning on a line drive off of the pitcher's shin.

South Atlantic League North All-Stars 7, South Atlantic League South All-Stars 5
The six Greenville Drive players who played in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game each made an impact, despite taking the loss. Rafael Devers started at third base and went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI out of the three hole for the South All-Stars. Starting shortstop Javier Guerra had a big night, collecting a pair of doubles and one RBI. Derek Miller started in left and Jordan Procychen was the South's starting catcher, but both went hitless. Mauricio Dubon collected an RBI ground out and scored a run after entering as a replacement at second base. Mario Alcantara pitched a scoreless sixth, allowing just one hit. Michael Kopech (healthy scratch) and Ben Moore (knee surgery) were also selected to the team, but did not play.

The Spinners fell in an early hole and could not battle back, getting handed their first loss of the season. Jemile Weeks, on a minor league rehab assignment, provided all of Lowell's offense with three RBI on a RBI ground out in the third and a two-run single in the fifth. Fourth-round draft pick Tate Matheny went hitless in his pro debut, going 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts out of the three hole. Tenth-round pick Mitchell Gunsolus hit cleanup and was the only Spinner to collect multiple hits on the game with a 2-for-4 night. Lowell brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Hector Lorenzana struck out to end the game. Starting pitcher Dioscar Romero did not escape the first inning, giving up three earned runs on four hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning. Brandon Show helped to pick up the slack with 3 1/3 innings of relief, his second appearance of that length for Lowell already, allowing a run on two hits and a walk while punching out one.

The GCL Sox handled the GCL Rays for the second straight day, getting solid pitching performances from right-handed starter Gerson Bautista and Jalen Williams, who picked up the win in relief. Bautista did not allow a run in four innings, allowing three hits, striking out four and walking two. Williams threw three innings of scoreless ball, allowing one hit and two walks, while striking out one. The Red Sox benefited from 10 walks, four errors and three runs scoring on wild pitches. Third baseman Rafael Oliveras went 1 for 2 with two walks, two runs scored and one RBI. Catcher Roldani Baldwin went 1 for 3 with a pair of runs batted in. Yoan Aybar went 1 for 4 and was caught stealing.

DSL Rockies 8, DSL Red Sox1 4
Red Sox pitchers were roughed up in Tuesday's matchup against the Rockies, allowing 14 hits. Starter Warlyn Guzman allowed two runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out two in three innings pitched. Jose Zacarias suffered the loss, giving up two runs on five hits in four innings of relief. The Rockies put the game out of reach by touching up Shair Lacrus for four runs in two innings. The Sox took the lead early in the game on wild pitch, a Samuel Miranda sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Elwin Tejada, but the pitching staff could not hold the lead.
DSL Red Sox2 6, DSL Cubs 3
The second DSL team grabbed its eighth straight win, with starter Denyi Reyes improving to 4-0 on the season. Reyes struck out eight and did not walk a batter in five innings pitched. He allowed three runs on five hits. Ritzi Mendoza did not allow a hit in a four-inning save, striking out one and walking one. Six different Red Sox hitters had a RBI. Leadoff hitter Lorenzo Cedrola went 2 for 5 with one RBI and a run scored. Shortstop Imeldo Diaz went 2 for 3 with a RBI double and a run scored.

Player of the NIght: Starting pitcher Denyi Reyes is lighting up the Dominican Summer League to start the year. The 18-year-old righty is among the league leaders in just about every category. Reyes has yet to walk a batter this season in 25 innings pitched, while striking out 28 in that span. He has a 1.80 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP in five games (four starts).
