Ty Buttrey promoted to Salem; Dedgar Jimenez joins Drive
6-foot-6 right-hander Ty Buttrey (pictured) has been promoted from the Greenville Drive up to the High A Salem Red Sox, the club announced today. Buttrey is currently ranked #44 on the SoxProspects.com rankings, already up 10 spots from the beginning of the season. Taking his spot in the Greenville rotation will be big left-hander Dedgar Jimenez, who spent last season pitching for the Red Sox affiliate in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
Buttrey has started the season well, throwing 22 innings over four starts for Greenville with a 2.45 ERA and 0.91 WHIP while striking out 22 and only walking three. The 22-year-old is coming off his best start of the season, throwing five no-hit innings with seven strikeouts and two walks on Sunday. The three walks may be the most telling part of his season line after walking 24 in 46 innings last season for Greenville in a disappointing full-season debut for the player who received an above-slot $1.3 million bonus as a fourth-round pick in 2012.
Jimenez, listed at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, was the Red Sox 2013 Latin Program Pitcher of the Year. Last season, in his stateside debut, Jimenez struck out 37 and walked eight in 49 1/3 innings, going 5-2 with a 3.28 ERA for the GCL champion Red Sox.
