Cup of Coffee: Cuevas tosses Portland past Reading

Matt Barnes pitched well in his four innings of work, allowing one run on four hits and three walks, striking out seven. Keith Couch took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk, punching out six in five innings of relief.
The PawSox offense was led by Matt Spring who was 2 for 4 with an RBI double. Pawtucket was 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and struck out 10 times against Durham pitching.

Portland pitching dominated Reading as William Cuevas tossed five shutout innings to pick up his third win of the season. Cuevas allowed just three hits and a walk, striking out six. Pat Light added two dominant innings of relief, allowing just one base runner on a walk while striking out five. Dayan Diaz collected his second save of the season, hurling two scoreless innings of relief.
The Sea Dogs got on the board in the second, when David Chester snapped an 0 for 11 streak by crushing a two-run home run. In the eighth, Jonathan Roof led off the inning with a triple and was subsequently brought home on a Luis Martinez sacrifice fly.

Kevin McAvoy was solid in his six innings of work, allowing one run on three hits and four walks, striking out six. Joe Gunkel added two innings of scoreless relief. Mike Adams collected his second save after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Red Sox got on the board first in the second, plating two on an RBI double off the bat of Mario Martinez. In the fifth, Sam Travis' RBI double plated two more, extending the Red Sox' lead to 4-1. Salem was able to pull out the victory despite being just 3 for 12 with runners in scoring position. Every Red Sox player reached base at least once, and every hitter collected at least one hit, with the exception of Jordan Betts.

Michael Kopech fell to 1-2 as he allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in just 2 1/3 innings. Carlos Pinales pitched well in relief, allowing just one hit while collecting a pair of strikeouts across his 3 2/3 innings. Kuehl McEachern continued to remain solid, adding two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Drive were unable to get much going offensively until the seventh, when Carlos Mesa's RBI single brought home two. Ben Moore was 2 for 4 with a run scored to lead the Greenville offense.

Player of the Night: William Cuevas who hurled five shutout innings in a victory against Reading. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed just three hits and a walk while picking up six strikeouts. Outside of a tough start on April 19 against Trenton, Cuevas has allowed one run or less in his other three starts.
