Cup of Coffee: Owens lifts Portland, Guzman's big day not enough for Greenville
7/30 Cup of Coffee: It turned out to be a mostly down day on the farm, with Portland and the DSL Sox picking up the lone victories of the day. The GCL Sox saw their doubleheader get interrupted once again by mother nature while Lowell's struggles at LeLacheur Field continued.

Game One: Portland Sea Dogs 3, Reading Fightin Phils (PHI) 2
Henry Owens picked up his 14th win of the season as he tossed five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks, striking out three. Aaron Kurcz grabbed the save, adding two scoreless innings of relief.
The Sea Dogs scored a single run in the second, third and fourth innings, enough to hold on for the victory. Derrik Gibson was 1 for 3 with an RBI double in the leadoff spot, while Ryan Dent paced the offense with a 3 for 3 outing, adding an RBI double and a run scored. Dent has started off the second half of the season on fire at the plate, going 12 for 30 (.400) with four doubles and three RBI in his last 10 games.
Game Two: Reading Fightin Phils (PHI) 4, Portland Sea Dogs 1
Portland grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a first inning RBI single from Michael Almanzar, but were unable to score again, getting just one runner to second the rest of the contest.
Jeremy Kehrt took the loss as he allowed four runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Mike McCarthy added 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in the loss. Dent again led the Sea Dogs offense, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.

Carolina Mudcats (CLE) 5, Salem Red Sox 1

Jacob Dahlstrand allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk in an inning of relief in his Salem debut. Madison Younginer and Matty Ott each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.

A close contest most of the way, Hagerstown was able to capitalize off of late Greenville miscues to capture the victory. Ty Buttrey hurled the first four innings for the Drive, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks. Myles Smith received the loss for Greenville, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits, striking out six in four innings of relief.
Down 1-0 in the second, the Drive brought home three runs on RBI singles from Franklin Guzman and Zach Kapstein, as well as an RBI ground out off the bat of Hector Lorenzana. The Suns tied the game in the bottom half of the inning and pulled ahead 4-3 in the third. In the fourth, Guzman led off the inning with a solo home run, his first with Greenville, to tie the game 4-4. A key fielding error in the sixth helped to fuel a Suns' rally, something the Drive were unable to answer.
Guzman had a fantastic day at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Kapstein and Tim Roberson each added two hits in the loss.

Lowell continued to struggle at home as the loss completed a three game sweep. Kevin McAvoy dropped to 0-2, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out four in 2 2/3 innings. Kuehl McEachern allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in two innings of relief.
Sam Travis continued to swing a hot bat, going 3 for 4 with an RBI double. The 20-year-old first baseman has now hit .390/.419/.561 with a home run and seven RBI in his last ten games. Danny Mars (11 games) and Mauricio Dubon (9 games) each saw their hitting streaks come to an end.

The Red Sox were only able to muster four hits, including a Luis Alexander Basabe RBI single in the loss. The rehabbing Bryce Brentz had another tough day at the plate, going 0 for 2 with two strikeouts.
Keith Couch made his first rehab appearance after landing on the disabled list earlier this month. The right-hander hurled 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and punching out three. Jalen Williams added 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk. Pat Goetze fell to 0-3, allowing an unearned run on two hits in two innings out of the bullpen.

DSL Red Sox 7, DSL Giants 3
Daniel Gonzalez received the start for the Red Sox, going three innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk, striking out three. Alejandro Rodriguez moved to 2-0 thanks to five scoreless innings of relief in which he allowed just one hit and struck out four.
The Red Sox offensive success was mainly fueled by the middle of their order, including Raiwinson Lameda, who was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and Yoan Aybar, who went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBI.

Player of the Day: Despite the fact that his team was not victorious on Tuesday, Franklin Guzman had an outstanding day at the plate. The 22-year-old outfielder went 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Greenville's 8-4 loss to Hagerstown. In his second season as a professional, Guzman has hit .257/.304/.419 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 29 games split between Lowell and Greenville.
