Cup of Coffee: Webster keeps rolling, Ramos collects four hits

5/5 Cup of Coffee: Allen Webster, Mike McCarthy, and Jamie Callahan all pitched well in victories, Henry Ramos (pictured) and Tzu-Wei Lin each had four hits, and Daniel Nava drove in the game-winning run for the PawSox. Mookie Betts extended his on-base streak, and Greenville scored double-digit runs for the second time in seven games.

Behind a third straight quality start from Allen Webster, the PawSox beat the Indianapolis Indians (PIT), 3-2. Webster worked a season-high 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out six. Over his last three starts, Webster has allowed four runs in 19 innings (1.87 ERA), walking five and striking out 12. Alex Wilson picked up his third save by firing 1 2/3 perfect innings, striking out three. 

Ryan Lavarnway, handling the catching duties, led the offense with his third three-hit game of the season, including an RBI double. Ryan Roberts went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, Garin Cecchini went 1 for 4 with an RBI single, and Daniel Nava drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

Portland's pitching did not allow an earned run as the Sea Dogs beat the Binghamton Mets (NYM), 4-1. Mike McCarthy got the start and was outstanding for the second game in a row, tossing six innings and allowing only an unearned run. He walked two and struck out six. Noe Ramirez and Miguel Celestino combined to throw the final three innings, with Celestino notching his second save. 

Henry Ramos overshadowed Mookie Betts by going 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Ramos terrorized the Mets pitchers all series, picking up eight hits in 15 at-bats. Betts had an off-night, as his average dropped to .405 with his 2 for 5 performance. Travis Shaw stayed hot, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and he is now hitting .313 on the season. Deven Marrero also committed his first error of the season, which shows how reliable he has been at shortstop.

It was a tough day for Salem, as they fell to the Lynchburg Hillcats (ATL), 7-1. Luis Diaz dropped to 2-3 on the season as he was roughed up for five runs in 5 2/3 innings, with the Hillcats getting to him for four runs in the sixth. Reed Gragnani went 2 for 3 with a walk, and Mario Martinez drove in Salem's lone run with a double.

Six players had multi-hit games as the Drive slugged their way past the Augusta GreenJackets (SFG), 12-2. After struggling with his control during his first few starts, Jamie Callahan did not walk a batter on Sunday, striking out five in five innings of two-run ball. John Ely made his Greenville debut with two scoreless innings, and Joe Gunkel continued to impress, striking out four in two shutout innings. 

Tzu-Wei Lin went 4 for 6 with two runs scored, and Jantzen Witte went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a triple, and three RBI. All but one starter managed to reach base, and in addition to slugging 18 hits, the Drive also stole four bases. Kendrick Perkins launched his first home run of the year, a two-run shot scoring Manuel Margot, who walked and stole his tenth base of the season.

Henry Ramos went 4 for 4 with a double, and he has now hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games. The switch-hitter is batting .314/.346/.402 in 102 at-bats, but his .421 batting average on balls in play and 26/5 K/BB ratio show he is more likely to regress than sustain those current numbers. Ramos just turned 22, and still has time to work on his approach, and the early results show he is not overmatched by the older competition.
