Fall/Winter League Roundup: Ramos surges, Vazquez falters

Even though the seasons are coming to a close, many Red Sox prospects continue to see playing time. Henry Ramos (pictured) had a strong week, while Nate Reed continues to impress in Mexico.

This week's roundup covers Dec. 23-29.

Dominican Winter League:

The playoffs started on Friday, and no Red Sox players appeared in any of the games over the weekend. Licey and Gigantes are each one win away from advancing to the finals.

Mexican Pacific League:

Nate Reed threw three more shutout innings on Saturday, and he has now allowed only one run in 16 1/3 innings over four appearances.

Jesus Loya went 5 for 19 this week, but had one of his best days of the winter on Friday when he went 3 for 5 with a double.

Venezuelan Winter League:

Playing in four games in two days, J.C. Linares went 2 for 11 with a home run and a walk.

Appearing in his first VWL games since the beginning of November after a strong Liga Paralela campaign, Mario Martinez went 1 for 5 with a double.

Heiker Meneses went 3 for 9 with a double to raise his average to an even .300.

Carlos Rivero had a down week, collecting only one hit in nine at-bats.

Puerto Rican (Roberto Clemente) Baseball League:

Christian Vazquez went 1 for 13 this week, and his line now sits at .206/.319/.284 in 102 at-bats.

Jeremy Kehrt was roughed up in his lone appearance, allowing five runs, four earned, in 2 1/3 innings.

The best performance this week belonged to Henry Ramos, who went 7 for 14 with a double and a home run.

Carlos Coste has been Santurce's bullpen catcher all season, and they rewarded him with an at-bat on Friday. He struck out in his lone plate appearance.

Australian Baseball League:

Stefan Welch went 2 for 14 this week, but also drew three walks.
