Red Sox sign left-hander Nate Reed
Boston has signed left-handed pitcher Nate Reed to a minor league contract reports Baseball America. After spending the 2013 season with Lancaster of the independent Atlantic League, WEEU.com reports that the 25-year-old was inked after a tryout in the Dominican Republic.
Reed posted a strong 2013 campaign coming out of the Lancaster bullpen, compiling a 2.87 ERA in 45 appearances, striking out 71 and walking 32 in 75 1/3 innings pitched. The 6-foot-3 lefty was drafted in the 40th round by Seattle in 2010 and spent two seasons in the Mariners system, peaking at the High A California League in 2011.
