Noe Ramirez to Portland, Stankiewicz signing official
The Red Sox announced that they have officially signed second-round pick Teddy Stankiewicz, and Alex Speier of WEEI.com reported that right-hander Noe Ramirez (pictured) has been promoted from Salem to Portland.
Stankiewicz agreed to terms shortly after the draft, but it took almost three weeks for the deal to become official. Rob Bradford of WEEI.com tweeted yesterday that Stankiewicz was waiting for clearance after his physical. He is in Lowell and should be pitching for the Spinners shortly.
Baseball America still lists Stankiewicz's bonus at $1.1 million, approximately $130,000 under slot for the 45th pick. The 19-year-old from Seminole State College will likely follow a similar path to 2012 draft picks Brian Johnson and Pat Light, who both threw short two-to-three inning stints with Lowell the summer after being drafted.
Ramirez has been incredibly consistent out of the Salem bullpen, as he has not allowed more than two runs in any of his 21 appearances this season. In all, he threw 47 1/3 innings in the Carolina League, walking nine and striking out 44, with an ERA of just 2.09. He did not allow a run in his last 9 2/3 innings of work. The 23-year-old will have his stuff tested in Double-A, as he will have to continue to command his arsenal that includes an 89-91 fastball and a low-80s changeup.
