Webster to start Wednesday for Red Sox
Right-hander Allen Webster is scheduled to make the second start of his major league career on Wednesday after being called up to replace closer Joel Hanarahan, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain.
Webster, 23, will take the rotation spot of left-hander Felix Doubront, who will be temporarily moved to the bullpen, when he toes the rubber against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park.
Doubront, who has posted a 5.71 ERA in five starts, is expected to make his next scheduled start.
In four starts in Pawtucket this season, Webster has posted a 0.90 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched.
In his major league debut for the Red Sox on April 21, Webster struck out five and gave up two earned runs in six innings of work.
With Hanarahan joining Andrew Bailey on the disabled list, the Red Sox will turn to Junichi Tazawa to close out games.
