Red Sox recall Bradley; Wilson optioned to Pawtucket

The Red Sox will recall outfielder Jackie Bradley, Jr. from Pawtucket before tonight's game in Philadelphia against the Phillies, reports Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston. To take his place on the roster, pitcher Alex Wilson will be optioned to Triple-A. Ian Browne of MLB.com says the Red Sox are expected to make the move official this afternoon

The Red Sox had been playing with a 12-man bench since Friday, when right fielder Shane Victorino and third baseman Will Middlebrooks were placed on the disabled list.

Bradley made the Red Sox out of spring training and started in left field on Opening Day, but struggled in his three-week major league stint. He has impressed during his time with Pawtucket, hitting .354/.457/.544. He has reached safely in 20 games, and is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak. During that time, Bradley also missed two weeks due to right biceps tendinitis. In the nine games since his return, Bradley has been excellent, going 15 for 36 (.417) with eight extra-base hits and six walks. A center fielder in 2012, Bradley has played corner spots in each of the last three games. He recorded two assists from left field on Monday.

Wilson has appeared in 16 games out of the Red Sox bullpen since his recall on April 10. The right-hander had a 1-0 record and 2.50 ERA in 18 innings, striking out 15 and walking nine. Wilson is in his first option season.
