Winter League Roundup: January 14-20


The Caribbean League Playoffs continued as the Dominican and Puerto Rican leagues began their championships this week.

Dominican Winter League

Mauro Gomez went 3 for 23 with a home run and six RBI this week as Escogido took a 3-0 lead over Aguilas in the best of nine series. 

Roberto Clemente (Puerto Rico) Baseball League

Jose De La Torre made three appearances out of the bullpen and tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out seven.

Jason Urquidez was roughed up on Tuesday as he allowed four unearned runs on two hits and two walks. Urquidez bounced back on Saturday and retired the only two batters he faced.

Jeremy Kehrt made two starts this week for Mayaguez. On Wednesday, Kehrt hurled 3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. On Saturday, Kehrt took the loss as he tossed 5 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four.

Henry Ramos (pictured) went 7 for 21 two doubles and two RBI as he Caguas take a 2-1 series lead over Mayaguez.

Tony Thomas joined Carolina for the playoffs and went 2 for 6 with a triple and a run scored before his team was eliminated. 

Mexican Pacific League


Marco Duarte had a tough outing in his lone start of the week on Saturday, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings pitched. 

Oscar Villarreal continued to be a key to Mexicali's playoff run as he tossed 3 innings of scoreless relief across three outings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out six. Villarreal picked up the victory in Wednesday's contest. Mexicali won a pivotal game seven against Guasave to advance to the Mexican Pacific League Championship against Obregon. 

Australian Baseball League

Boss Moanaroa had a hot bat this week as he went 6 for 20 with two doubles and five RBI in four games.

Panama Professional League

Anthony Amaya went 1 for 7 with two runs scored in just two games played this week.
