Winter League Roundup: November 26-December 2
Several position players had strong weeks, led by Ivan De Jesus and Henry Ramos, and Anthony Ranaudo was shut down with a groin injury
Dominican Winter League
After being added to the Red Sox 40-man roster two weeks ago, Steven Wright took the hill for his fifth appearance for the Leones del Escogido. Wright gave up 11 hits in five innings, allowing four runs, two earned, while walking none and striking out three. It was his first non-quality start for Leones.
Stolmy Pimentel was strong in his second straight appearance, allowing one run on two hits in three innings. Pimentel has walked only seven in his 23 innings this winter, but has also allowed 25 hits, including four home runs.
Dan Butler's nightmare winter continued at the plate, going 0 for 7 with four strikeouts in two games this week. He is now batting .164.
After a rocky start to the winter, Mauro Gomez has really heated up, and that continued this week, as he reached base eight times in five games. He has not shown much power lately, but he has a .477 on-base percentage over his last 10 games.
Roberto Clemente (Puerto Rico) Baseball League
Anthony Ranaudo's rough 2012 season continued, as he was injured in the first inning of his start on Wednesday. Ranaudo injured his groin, which is the same injury he suffered last spring that caused him to miss the beginning of the season. The injury is not as serious, but he will be shut down for the winter as the Red Sox do not want to risk re-injury.
Jeremy Kehrt only lasted one inning in his start on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits.
The most impressive Red Sox pitcher this winter may be Jose De La Torre, who now has 14 strikeouts and no walks in 11 innings, and has allowed only three runs. He threw three innings and gave up one run in his two appearances this week.
Ivan De Jesus (pictured) was on fire this week, going 12 for 24 with four doubles, a home run, and 8 RBI. He raised his batting average to .373 in 59 at-bats.
Both Henry Ramos and Christian Vazquez also had strong weeks in Puerto Rico, with Ramos going 5 for 12 with a double, while Vazquez connected for a double, triple, and home run.
Mexican Pacific League
Marco Duarte allowed at least five runs for the third straight game, and his ERA now sits at 5.59.
Australian Baseball League
Appearing in three games this week, Boss Moanaroa went 2 for 9 with a double and a walk. His two hits on Sunday broke a streak of six straight games without a hit for Boss.
Daniel McGrath allowed two runs on two hits in his lone inning of work.

Liga Paralela-Boston
Much like last year, the Red Sox are fielding nearly an entire team in the Liga Venezuela Beisbol Profesional's minor league, the Liga Paralela. The players are all in the lower levels of the minor league system, with many of them still in rookie ball. Alixon Suarez, Oscar Perez, Heiker Meneses, Dreily Guerrero, and Keivin Heras are some of the more notable names on the team.
The team went 1-2-2 this week, and is now 11-21-3 on the season. To follow the large contingent of players participating in the league, check out the league's official website.
