Winter League Roundup: November 19-25

With the Arizona Fall League and World Baseball Classic qualifier over, the remaining winter leagues around the world grabbed the spotlight as many prospects continued to get in off season work. 

Venezuelan Winter League

Yeiper Castillo continued to be solid in relief as he allowed five hits without allowing a run in 2 2/3 innings pitched over two outings this week. 

Mexican Pacific League

Marco Duarte had his second rough start in a row as he was shelled for six runs on ten hits in just 3 2/3 innings as he suffered the loss on Wednesday against Guasave.

Australian Baseball League

Daniel McGrath appeared in just one contest this week, tossing 1 1/3 innings of relief against Canberra on Saturday, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and two walks, striking out a pair.

Boss Moanaroa joined the Sydney Blue Sox, going 0 for 15 with two walks in four games thus far. 

Dominican Winter League

Pedro Ciriaco appeared in just one game this week, going 0 for 2 on Monday against Licey. 

Knuckleballer Steven Wright (pictured) had a two-start week, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks in five innings against Toros on Tuesday. Facing Licey on Sunday, Wright allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks during his seven innings of work. Wright received a no-decision as Escogido went on to lose the contest. 

Sandy Rosario appeared three times in relief, hurling 2 1/3 innings, allowing one walk and striking out two. 

Dan Butler's struggles continued as he was 0 for 6 in four games this week. 

Mauro Gomez appeared in three contests, going 3 for 8 with a double, walk and 3 RBI.

Tony Pena Jr. continued to impress, adding 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in three outings this week. Pena has yet to allow an earned run this off season, striking out 14 in 13 1/3 innings of work.

Stolmy Pimentel had two very different starts this week. On Monday against Gigantes, Pimentel took the loss as he lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four. He bounced back in Sunday's start against Toros, hurling 3 innings, allowing one run on five hits while punching out five. 

Roberto Clemente (Puerto Rico) Baseball League

Anthony Ranaudo (pictured), who was looking to bounce back from a rough start last week, tossed four shutout innings against Santurce, allowing a walk and a hit while striking out two. 

Jeremy Kehrt received the start on Saturday against first place Caguas, receiving the loss for his five innings of work, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out three. 

Jose De La Torre tossed a scoreless inning of relief against Mayaguez on Saturday. 

Ivan De Jesus went 3 for 10 with three RBI in three contests this week, including a doubleheader on Sunday against last place Ponce. 

Henry Ramos was 3 for 9 with a stolen base in three games this week. Ramos is hitting just .178/.224/.244 with two RBI in 13 games for Ponce. 

Christian Vazquez saw limited action this week, going 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's contest against Ponce.

Jason Urquidez picked up the victory on Saturday against Ponce, hurling 1 1/3 innings of flawless relief. On Sunday against Mayaguez, Urquidez allowed three runs on three hits in just two-thirds of an inning. 

Liga Paralela-Boston

Much like last year, the Red Sox are fielding nearly an entire team in the Liga Venezuela Beisbol Profesional's minor league, the Liga Paralela. The players are all in the lower levels of the minor league system, with many of them still in rookie ball. Alixon Suarez, Oscar Perez, Heiker Meneses, Dreily Guerrero, and Keivin Heras are some of the more notable names on the team.

The team went 3-2 this week, and is now 10-19-1 on the season. To follow the large contingent of players participating in the league, check out the league's official website.
