Fall/Winter League Roundup: November 5-11

With more offseason leagues beginning this week, many of the Red Sox top prospects are currently seeing action in various leagues around the world. For full statistics, make sure to follow our Fall/Winter League page, which is updated daily.

Arizona Fall League

Christian Vazquez appeared in his last game for Surprise on Monday as he left the team to join Atenienses de Manati of the Puerto Rican Baseball League. Vazquez played in 10 games for the Saguaros, hitting .257/.395/.429 with a home run and three RBI. 

Bryce Brentz (pictured) made the most of his two appearances this week, going 3 for 6 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Brentz has continued to hit well after a solid 2012 campaign. The 23-year-old right fielder is 9 for 18 with runners in scoring position and is now hitting .327/.397/.500 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 14 games for Surprise. 

Third baseman Michael Almanzar was the busiest Boston participant this week, appearing in four contests, going 1 for 15 with two RBI. Almanzar, has struggled to get going for the Saguaros thus far, hitting just .186/.266/.214 with six RBI. 

Pete Ruiz began his week with a rough outing against Phoenix on Monday, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits in just 1/3 of an inning as he took his first loss of the fall campaign. The right-hander bounced back nicely on Thursday against Salt River, hurling a scoreless inning of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one. 

Brock Huntzinger extended his scoreless appearances streak to four by pitching well in relief twice this week. On Tuesday, Huntzinger tossed two scoreless innings of relief against Mesa, allowing three hits and striking out one. The 24-year-old added a scoreless inning of relief against Scottsdale on Saturday, bringing his ERA down to 2.08. 

It was a tale of two outings for reliever Ryan Pressly, as he continued to have an up-and-down fall league showing. On Monday against Phoenix, Pressly added a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two. The story was much different for Pressly in Thursday's outing against Salt River, as he allowed three runs on three hits in two innings of relief, striking out four, but held on for the save. 

Venezuelan Winter League

Yeiper Castillo made two appearances this week, tossing 1 1/3 innings of relief against Caracas on Wednesday and taking the loss on Friday against La Guaira, allowing a costly two-run home run in his 2/3 of an inning. 

J.C. Linares went hitless in five at-bats across two games. Linares is now hitting just .188/.257/.281 with a home run and an RBI in nine games. 

Ronald Bermudez had a nice contest on Friday against Lara, going 2 for 4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Caracas' 13-4 victory.  

Mexican Winter League

Marco Duarte made it two straight wins as he tossed six scoreless innings against Culican on Friday, allowing four hits and three walks while punching out six. 

Dominican Winter League

Josh Fields had one good outing and one poor outing this week. On Tuesday against Gigantes, Fields tossed 1/3 of an inning, walking one. Fields struggled on Saturday against Toros, allowing two runs on two walks without recording an out.

Mauro Gomez had his best week thus far for the Leones, going 10 for 26 with a home run, three doubles and two RBI. Gomez is now hitting .215/.326/.430 with three home runs and 15 RBI.

Stolmy Pimentel (pictured) made one start this week against Escogido on Saturday. Pimentel tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out five. 

Dan Butler was 2 for 9 with an RBI in four games this week.

Tony Pena remained unscored upon as he picked up the victory on Tuesday against Gigantes by tossing 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Pitching against Gigantes again on Sunday, Pena tossed just 1/3 innings of relief.

Australian Baseball League
Daniel McGrath made his first appearance as the Melbourne Aces opened their season this past weekend, allowing one run on four hits in his two innings of relief. The Australian League does not play every day, unlike the other winter leagues, playing series from Thursday through Sunday, for the most part.

Puerto Rico/Roberto Clemente Baseball League
Play began in Puerto Rico on Thursday and is expected to continue until mid-January.

Anthony Ranaudo found success against Manati in his winter league debut, hurling three scoreless innings against them in a start on Thursday, walking one and striking out three.

Jeremy Kehrt also pitched well against Manati, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out four in 3 2/3 scoreless innings in a start Friday . 

Jose De La Torre hurled 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in two outings, allowing just one hit and striking out six. De La Torre picked up the victory for his performance in Friday's contest against Ponce.

Henry Ramos went 1 for 13 with a double in three games this week.

Ivan De Jesus is off to a good start for Manati, going 5 for 16 with an RBI in four games, starting for the club at second base.

Christian Vazquez, who had previously been playing for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League has joined Manati and went 0 for 3 in his first contest on Saturday.

Liga Paralela-Boston

Much like last year, the Red Sox are fielding nearly an entire team in the Liga Venezuela Beisbol Profesional's minor league, the Liga Paralela. The players are all in the lower levels of the minor league system, with many of them still in rookie ball. Alixon Suarez, Oscar Perez, Heiker Meneses, Dreily Guerrero, and Keivin Heras are some of the more notable names on the team.

Cleuluis Rondon went 2 for 4 with two RBI in both Monday and Friday's contests as the shortstop was an integral part of two Boston victories.

In Friday's contest, Meneses went 3 for 4 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored. Meneses is now hitting .308/.453/.385 with five RBI in 13 contests.
