2012 Season in Review: Marrero, considered by many a consensus top 10 draft pick coming into 2012, had a disappointing junior campaign with Arizona State, hitting .284/.340/.436. The savvy defensive shortstop fell to Boston at pick 24 and eventually signed with the team for a bonus of $1.75 million. Embarking on his professional career with the Lowell Spinners, Marrero only put up pedestrian numbers while he adjusted to professional ball. The learning paid off at the end of the season for the 22-year-old, as he hit .333/.392/.455 with four doubles and two triples after the All-Star break. Marrero showed a knack to come through with runners on base as well, hitting .341/.425/.440 in those situations.
2013 Outlook: Marrero will begin 2013 with a full season assignment to either Greenville or Salem. Consistency both at the plate and in the field will be a key to success for Marrero, who will need to make adjustments at the plate as he faces higher level pitching. Marrero has the tools of a plus defender who will stay at shortstop and can also profile as a solid hitter for his position.

2012 Season in Review: Following a stellar first full season with Greenville, the 6-foot-4 right-hander was mostly dominant at High-A Salem to start the year, going 7-7 with 3.40 ERA in 20 starts. His repertoire bolstered by the organization allowing him to begin throwing his cutter again, Workman struck out 107 and walked just 20, the best control numbers of any point during his college or professional career. The impressive performance with Salem earned Workman a promotion to Double-A Portland in August, where he kept his momentum going. In five starts for the Sea Dogs, Workman went 3-1 with a 3.96 ERA, striking out 23 and walking just five in 25 innings pitched. The impressive 2012 campaign earned Workman the Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors at season's end.
2013 Outlook: Holding his own after a late season promotion to Portland bodes well for Workman's 2013. While he figures to begin the year as part of a stacked Sea Dogs rotation, he has the potential to earn a promotion to Pawtucket at some point during the year. Workman must continue to post stellar control numbers in order to limit base runners and keep up his success. Long thought of as a potential late-inning bullpen arm, Workman may very well be on the path to shedding that label and turning himself into a reliable starting option, but he will need to continue succeeding in a starting role to do so.
