Players of the Month, August: Xander Bogaerts & Nefi Ogando
SoxProspects.com Player of the Month of August Portland's Xander Bogaerts hit .321/.349/.617 (26-for-81) with five home runs and nine doubles in 20 games. He also batted in 17 runs, scored 12 and stole a base (1 CS). Bogaerts finishes the 2012 season with a .307/.373/.523 line (146-for-476) with 20 home runs, 37 doubles, three triples, and 81 runs batted in over 127 games (23 with Portland, 104 with Salem). He was also voted SoxProspects.com Player of the Week of July 30-August 5th. Bogaerts is currently the top-ranked prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
Greenville's Nefi Ogando worked 18.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen over seven August appearances, allowing five hits for a .082 opponents batting average and struck out 16 while walking only three en route to SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month honors. He earned his only save of the month allowing a single hit over three innings of work against Asheville (COL) August 23. In 38 appearances in 2012 Ogando earned a 4-4 record with a 3.70 ERA, allowing 31 earned runs on 72 hits over 75.1 innings pitched, striking out 54 and walking 34 and holding opposing batters to a .248 average.
