Cup of Coffee: Repko's catch is the play of the year

9/3 Cup of Coffee: Allen Webster had a tough end to his strong 2012 campaign, Keury De La Cruz and Garin Cecchini each reached big milestones, but it was a first-inning catch in Pawtucket that stole the show on Sunday.

Jason Repko (pictured) made one of the best catches you will ever see in the PawSox 6-2 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (NYY). With the bases loaded and nobody out in the first, Kosuke Fukodome hit a deep fly ball to left. Running full speed, Repko jumped, reached over the fence, and flipped over the wall into the PawSox bullpen to take a grand slam away. You can watch the play here.

Down 3-1 in the sixth, the PawSox added a run when Nate Spears singled in Repko. Alex Wilson came on in the eighth, but allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in 1.0 inning to put the game out of reach. Che-Hsuan Lin went 2 for 4 with a walk, and Bryce Brentz remained hitless in Triple-A, though he did draw his first walk.

The Sea Dogs were on the losing end of their annual Field of Dreams game, falling to the Reading Phillies (PHI), 5-0. Allen Webster had a tough start, allowing five runs in 5.0 innings. He did not have good control, walking two batters and hitting two batters, though he did strike out five. The Sea Dogs offense was stagnant, collecting only three hits on the day. One of the hits came from Xander Bogaerts, who has now hit safely in 18 of his 22 games with the Sea Dogs. Brandon Workman takes the hill tomorrow in the last game of the season for Portland.

Keury De La Cruz became the first 20/20 player in the system this season in Salem's 6-1 loss to the Dash (CWS). Leading off the ninth, De La Cruz launched his 20th home run of the season to center field to account for Salem's lone run. He stole his 20th base of the season four days ago, and was in a race with Jeremy Hazelbaker to see who would get to 20/20 first. Hazelbaker is still one home run shy. Michael Almanzar went 1 for 3 with a single to push his average to an even .300, something that seemed impossible after he hit .182 in 61 games with Salem last season.

Garin Cecchini set the Greenville franchise record for doubles in a season, but the Drive were doubled up by the Crawdads (TEX), 8-4. Madison Younginer's tough season ended with one his worst starts, as he gave up six runs in only 1.2 innings. The Drive were not able to climb out of the early hole, but Cecchini did reach one milestone, while coming close to reaching another. His two doubles gave him 38 on the season, a new franchise record. He also stole his 49th base, and will look to reach 50 in the Drive's final game tomorrow.

The Spinners were the victims of a walk-off suicide squeeze, as they fell to the Connecticut Tigers (DET) 3-2 in 10 innings. The Tigers got two runs in the third on a home run off of Sergio Gomez. Those were the only runs Gomez would allow in his 5.0 innings of work, but the Spinners remained scoreless into the eighth. After Deven Marrero laid down a sacrifice bunt to put two runners in scoring position, Jake Davies hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to one. Back-to-back doubles from Aneury Tavarez and Kevin Heller tied the game in the ninth, but the Tigers laid down a successful suicide squeeze in the bottom of the tenth to win the game. Marrero led the offense, going 2 for 4.

Player of the Night: There was not one player who stood above the rest on Sunday in terms of production, so we will give the Player of the Night award to Jason Repko for his jaw-dropping, grand slam robbing catch. Here is the link again.
