Bradley slip, injury "a scary moment" for Sea Dogs
NEW BRITAIN, CONN. -- Portland manager Kevin Boles and center fielder Jackie Bradley, Jr. were optimistic after Monday's 4-3, 10-inning win over New Britain (MIN) that the first inning left ankle injury that forced Bradley out of the game was not serious.
"He was able to put weight on his foot, weight on his ankle, but it was a scary moment," Boles said after the game. "We're going to get things right, and we're going to make sure he's feeling in better shape."
Bradley said he felt fine after the game, and that his ankle would be evaluated tomorrow. The injury occurred in the top of the first, after Bradley singled on the game's first pitch. Two batters later, he made the turn around second on a Jeremy Hazelbaker single and slid on the infield dirt, most of which was mud despite the dry day.
"It was just too wet out there," Boles said. Bradley scuffled back to the bag and was replaced with a pinch runner. However, play was halted by the umpires for 30 minutes as the grounds crew worked on the infield.
