Scottsdale withstands Phoenix's rally to win 5-4
10/9 Cup of Coffee: Scottsdale earned their 2nd straight victory on Saturday as they defeated the Phoenix Desert Dogs 5-4.
Scottsdale got out to an early lead as Hank Conger (LAA) singled home Gary Brown (SF) in the top of the 1st. Brown added a 2 run double in the 2nd to put Scottsdale up 3-0. Phoenix got 2 back in the 5th as Dusty Coleman (OAK) hit a home run to deep center field. The score remained 3-2 until the top of the 8th when a Jean Segura (LAA) single and a Ryan Dent force out brought home 2 more runs for the Scorpions. Michael Choice (OAK) continued to enjoy the Arizona air, launching a home run for the Desert Dogs in the bottom of the 8th. They went to the 9th with the score 5-4 in favor of the Scorpions. With speedster Anthony Gose (TOR) representing the tying run at 2nd, Choice struck out to end the game, and the Scorpions moved to 2-2 on the season.
Ryan Dent went 0 for 3 with a walk and Caleb Clay threw 1.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 strike out.
The next game for the Scorpions is Monday at 9:35 EST against the Mesa Solar Sox.
