Javelinas use hot bats to cut down Saguaros
11/12 Cup of Coffee: In a rematch of Tuesday's game, the Peoria Javelinas chopped down the Peoria Saguaros thanks to timely hitting and solid work from the bullpen.
A four run fourth inning helped vault the Javelinas past the Saguaros 9-4 on Thursday.
After the Saguaros scored in the bottom half of the first, the Javelinas received a solo home run from John Tolisano (TOR) in the top of the third to knot the score at 1. A wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning gave the Saguaros the lead back, but it would not last for long. A four run top of the fourth inning for the Javelinas started with three of the first four batters reaching base due to a walk. An RBI single by Cord Phelps (CLE) and an RBI ground out by Jose Iglesias brought home the first two runs, and consecutive wild pitches by Saguaros pitcher Charles Leesman (CWS) allowed the final two runs to score. The Saguaros responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own, thanks to an Iglesias throwing error. Two more wild pitches by Leesman and a Juan Carlos Linares RBI double allowed the Javelinas to tack on two more in the top of the fifth, giving them a 7-3 advantage. The teams traded runs in the sixth and the Javelinas added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a Tolisano sacrifice fly to secure the 9-4 victory.
Iglesias was 0 for 6 with an RBI, stolen base and an error. Linares ended the day 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Catcher Ryan Lavarnway was 0 for 3 with 2 walks. Daniel Turpen pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing just one hit.
The Javelinas will host the Surprise Rafters today at 3:35 EST.
Player of the Night: Juan Carlos Linares, who was 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Peoria's 9-4 victory.
