Boston offers arbitration to three
The Red Sox have officially offered arbitration to catcher Victor Martinez, third baseman Adrian Beltre and infielder Felipe Lopez. Boston declined to offer arbitration to long time backstop Jason Varitek and infielders Bill Hall and Mike Lowell.
Offering Martinez, Beltre and Lopez arbitration ensures that the Red Sox can collect draft picks if the players decide to play elsewhere next season. Boston could potentially receive a team's first round pick as well as a supplemental first round selection for both Beltre and Martinez. Lopez, who was classified as a Type B free agent, would only garner a supplemental selection later in the draft. All players offered arbitration have until November 30 to accept or decline the offer.
