Pedroia to DL, Navarro called up to Boston

As first reported by the Providence Journal, the Red Sox have placed Dustin Pedroia on the 15-day disabled list after he experienced soreness in his injured foot and have recalled infielder Yamaico Navarro from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Navarro, 22, was originally signed by Boston in September of 2005 as an international free agent. The first position player who has risen to the majors from beginning in the Dominican Summer League since General Manager Theo Epstein took control of the club, Navarro has performed admirably at every level along the minor league ladder.

In 2010, Navarro has split time between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .275/.356/.437 with 11 home runs and 61 RBI. He immediately saw action in last night's Red Sox game, collecting his first major league hit after entering the contest for Marco Scutaro in the fifth inning.
