Hansack recalled, will fill in for Beckett
Ten days after appearing in relief for the big club (0.2 IP: 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K), RHP Devern Hansack has been recalled from Pawtucket to start tonight at Fenway against the Atlanta Braves. A demoted player is usually required to spend 10 days in the minors before being eligible to be recalled, unless a player is placed on the DL. The Red Sox announced yesterday that Josh Beckett had been placed on the DL as a result of the ringer injury he suffered Sunday, May 13 (the move is retroactive to that day); he is expected to miss two starts. In Hansack's last start with Pawtucket (May 12) he allowed three ER on five hits, while issuing three walks and striking out three in 6.0 IP in a loss at home against Toledo (Tigers). Hansack had been scheduled to start yesterday against Durham, his turn was taken by Charlie Zink. On the season with the PawSox Hansack is 1-4 in 34.2 IP over six starts, surrendering 15 ER (3.89 ERA) on 35 H (.267 BAA) while walking 9 and striking out 37.
