8/19 Cup of Coffee


On Saturday Pawtucket beat Buffalo 9-5. Tim Bausher got the start and went 4 innngs giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. Craig Breslow pitched 2 scoreless innings striking out 2. Dustin Pedroia hit a grand slam while Willie Harris went 3-3 with a double and an RBI. David Murphy and Carlos Pena each had two hits apiece in the win. Portland fell at Trenton 8-4. Tommy Hottovy got the start and went 5 1/3 innings giving up 8 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. Jacoby Ellsbury went 1-3 with a double, run scored, 2 walks and had his 11th stolen base. Luis Jimenez went 2-5 with a double in the loss. In Wilmington the Blue Rocks beat Lynchburg 8-4. Clay Buchholz went 5 innings giving up 3 runs while striking out 6 and walking 3. Bryce Cox pitched 2 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 2 and walking 1. Jeff Natale went 3-4 with a double and Jeff Corsaletti went 2-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Mark Wagner went 2-5 in the win.

In Greenville the Drive fell to Charleston 7-6 in 12 innings. Ryan Phillips went 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3 and walking 2. Luis Soto went 3-6 with an RBI and Tony Granadillo went 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI. In Lowell the Spinners lost 4-3 in 10 innings to Jamestown. Ryne Lawson went 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1. Josh Papelbon pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Reid Engel and Ryan Khoury each had two hits apiece and Paul Smyth went 1-4 with 2 RBI in the loss. And finally the GCL Red Sox had their winning streak snapped at 7 losing to the Reds 5-3. Jorge Rodriguez pitched 5 innings giving up 3 unearned runs on 3 hits while striking out 3 and walking 2. Mike Jones went 1-3 with a homerun and 3 RBI and Jonathan Egan went 1-4 with a double and a run scored.

Player of the Night: Jeff Natale who went 3-4 with a double, walk and a run scored in Wilmington's 8-4 win over Lynchburg.
