9/8 Cup of Coffee
Your morning cup of coffee is going to taste pretty good this morning if you are a fan of the Portland Sea Dogs. The SeaDogs in game one of the semi-finals last night staged a dramatic come from behind victory over Trenton. Trailing 3-1 with 2 out in the ninth inning, Chad Spann hit a walk off grand slam homer to give the Dogs a 5-3 win. He ended up going 2 for4 for the night with of course 4 RBI. Brandon Moss went 2 for 4. Jared Sandberg went 1 for 4 with a solo homer, David Murphy went 1 for 4 with a run scored. Hanley Ramirez also went 1 for 4. Jon Lester pitched a strong game going 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 9 Ks. Edgar Martinez pitched 1 inning giving up a run on a hit with 3 Ks. Barry Hertzler pitched a scoreless third of an inning while Randy Beam finished off the last 2/3 of an inning striking out 2. He got the win.Lowell even though they defeated Oneonta 11-4 were officially eliminated from playoff contention last night due to Williamsport's victory. Ryan Phillips got the win going 5 innings allowing 0 hits and 0 runs. He had 7 Ks. Yahmed Yema led the Spinner attack going 4 for 6 with 4 RBI. Jed Lowrie was 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 4 RBI. Mitch Stachowsky went 3 for 4 with a home run and 3 runs scored. Jacoby Ellsbury went 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored. Several players had to be considered for player of the night including Ryan Phillips and Yahmed Yema but due to the drama and importance of his contribution there can be only one selection.
Player of The Night: Chad Spann who went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI. His dramatic walk off grand slam home run with 2 out in the bottom of the ninth brought the Sea Dogs a victory in game one of their series.
