9/7 Cup of Coffee


The cups of coffee are getting smaller by the day as many of the teams have reached the end of their seasons. Lowell kept their slim playoff hopes alive with an exciting 3-2 win over Oneonta. Clay Buchholz started the game and went 4 innings giving up 4 hits but 0 runs. He struck out 6. Chris Jones got the win pitching 2 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 3 Ks. Argimiro Guanchez got the save pitching the last 3 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 4 Ks. Jed Lowrie went 1 for 3 with 3 walks. Jay Johnson went 1 for 4 with a RBI. Jason Twombley went 1 for 4 with a run scored. Jacoby Ellsbury went 1 for 4 with a run scored and Mitch Stachowsky went 1 for 4 with a RBI. As you know Portland starts their playoff run tonight. Closing off the other teams, Pawtucket ended up tied for second in their division of the International League with a 75-69 record. Wilmington ended the second half of their season with a 29-41 record(60-80 overall) which put them in last place in their division of the Carolina League. Greenville ended up in 4th place of their division of the South Atlantic League with a 37-33 record in the second half of their schedule. The Gulf Coast Red Sox finished in first place in their division with a 30-24 record.

Player of The Night: Clay Buchholz who although not getting the win or the save established the tone for the game throwing 4 scoreless innings at Oneonta while striking out 6.
