9/4 Cup of Coffee
Last night was not a good one for the teams down on the farm. Teams lost four of the five contests played. Pawtucket was officially eliminated from the playoffs losing 5-3 to Scranton/WB. Abe Alvarez took the loss allowing 5 runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Juan Perez pitched the last 3 2/3 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits. Shawn Wooten was 4 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Portland was hammered by Akron 11-4. Anibal Sanchez started and went 4 innings giving up 7 runs on 10 hits with 5 Ks. Barry Hertzler took over allowing 4 runs on 6 hits over the next 3 innings. Jared Sandberg went 2 for 4. Jeremy West was 1 for 2. Scott Youngbauer went 1 for 3. Frederick edged Wilmington 7-6. Luis Mendoza gave up 5 runs on 9 hits over 5 2/3 innings of work. He struck out 4. Claudio Arias went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Bryan Pritz was 2 for 4 with a RBI. Ian Bladergroen was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Greenville had the only win of the night beating Rome 6-2. Roger Lincoln went 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 7 Ks. Jeff Natale went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Tony Granadillo went 2 for 4 with a home run and Jeff Corsaletti went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored. In the final matchup of yesterday, Vermont got past Lowell 5-3 even though the Spinners outhit them 10-8. Mario Pena took the loss going 6 innings giving up 5 runs on 7 hits. Jed Lowrie and Yahmed Yema each went 2 for 5.
