Cup of Coffee: Welch drives in two runs, steals two bases in DSL action
8/18 Cup of Coffee: Boston's DSL affiliates went 0-2 on Monday, the penultimate day of the 2026 Dominican Summer League regular season. Despite the losses, Freyerso Vasquez, Miguel Welch, Enmanuel Figuereo, Jhonny Osta, Axell Herrera, and Geomaikel Martinez stood out offensively.

Three players accounted for all seven of the Blue squad's hits in this one. Freyerso Vasquez led the way, going 3 for 4 with one double, one run scored, and one stolen base. Miguel Welch and Enmanuel Figuereo each went 2 for 4. Welch drove in two runs, scored once, and stole two bases. Figuereo scored one run and stole one base. On the mound, Allan Griman went three innings in his start, allowing two earned runs on four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Carlos Falcon and Angel Lopez combined for four strikeouts over 1 1/3 scoreless frames of relief.

Three players put together multi-hit games for the Red squad. Jhonny Osta and Axell Herrera each went 2 for 4. Osta doubled and scored one run, while Herrera drove in one run. Geomaikel Martinez doubled and pushed across one run as part of a 2-for-5 day. Wilneyker Bruce had two RBI. Diomar Hidalgo doubled and scored one run. Adrian Valdez drew three walks, scoring once. On the mound, Isaac Brujan took the loss in his start, allowing one earned run on two hits, no walks, and one strikeout over 1 2/3 innings. Dani Richar and Wascar Berroa combined for two scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

Player of the Day: Miguel Welch gets the nod for his all-around productive day at the plate and on the basepaths. The 18-year-old infielder is putting the finishing touches on a solid second season in the Dominican Summer League, as he is batting .293/.418/.391 with five doubles, three triples, two home runs, 19 RBI, 48 runs scored, 33 stolen bases, 38 walks, and 25 strikeouts in 52 games (214 plate appearances) for the Blue squad. He originally signed for $10,000 as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic last January.
