Cup of Coffee: Eyanson earns the Futures Game win; Romero walks it off for Worcester
7/13 Cup of Coffee: The Red Sox were well represented in the All-Star Futures Game, with the system's two top prospects contributing to the win for the American League. Worcester and Salem had exciting wins in extra innings, with Mikey Romero playing the hero for the WooSox, while Ilan Fernandez (pictured) led the RidgeYaks.

Getting the start at second base, Franklin Arias went 0 for 2 with an RBI groundout. He was at the keystone in deference to Leo De Vries at shortstop. The win went to Anthony Eyanson despite him recording just one out. He came on with two outs in the fourth and walked Ethan Salas before getting Luis Peña to fly out.

The WooSox threw the kitchen sink at the Red Wings and it paid off with a win in extras. The start went to Seth Martinez who allowed only one hit over two scoreless frames. Tyler Uberstine moved his scoreless inning streak to seven with a spotless fifth, while the Red Wings got to Tyler Samaniego for two runs in the eighth and Sam McWilliams for two runs in the ninth to take the lead. Worcester tied it back up in the bottom of the ninth on an infield RBI single from Kristian Campbell and a sacrifice fly from Max Ferguson. McWilliams locked Rochester down in the 10th, and Mikey Romero delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the inning.
Romero finished 2 for 5 with an RBI, while Ferguson added a double. Vinny Capra delivered a two-run double, and Mickey Gasper went 2 for 4 with an RBI single.

Portland used five different pitchers as part of a bullpen game, but it was no match for New Hampshire. Typically a starter, Hayden Mullins only went one inning as he was pitching on three days of rest. He surrendered a two-run home run in the first. The only Sea Dog pitcher to not allow a run was Erik Rivera who struck out two while recording the final four outs. Nelly Taylor put on a show in the loss, going 3 for 3 with a home run, double, and a walk. Ronald Rosario launched his seventh home run as part of a 2-for-4 day, and Johanfran Garcia went 1 for 2 with a double. The home run was the fourth in four games for Rosario, while Garcia was pulled from the game with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

The Drive's three-game winning streak came to an end as their bats went quiet. It was a quality start for Dylan Brown who allowed three runs (two earned) over six frames. He walked two and struck out five. Adam Bates kept the Grasshoppers off the board over the final two frames. A home run from Enddy Azocar accounted for all the offense. It was Azocar's fifth home run over his last seven games, and he is up to 13 total on the year. Justin Gonzales went 1 for 2 with two walks, and Mason White went 2 for 3.

The Boston organization went 3-0 in extra-inning games on Sunday, with Salem erupting for five runs in the 10th. Starter Jose Bello held Columbia scoreless over the first four frames, and the win went to Wuilliams Rodriguez who pitched a flawless ninth and allowed only the zombie runner to score in the 10th. Hitting out of the number nine spot, Ilan Fernandez was the star of the game. He went 3 for 5 with two home runs and five RBI. His second home run was a three-run shot in the 10th that put the game on ice. Starlyn Nunez also went deep in the 10th, leading off the inning with a two-run blast. He finished 3 for 5 with a double. Andruw Musett went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, while Justin Barry went 2 for 5 with a double. The double was Barry's first extra-base hit in 13 games with Salem.

Player of the Day: Two home runs off the bat of Ilan Fernandez helped Salem secure the victory. The 19-year-old opened the season splitting time between second and third base, but his last nine games have all been at second. Signed for $60,000 out of Venezuela, Fernandez posted a .753 OPS in 2024 in the DSL and a .646 OPS in the FCL in 2025. He is now up to a .717 OPS in Salem after entering the day at .660. It was a rare power surge for Fernandez as he entered the day with three career home runs over 136 games.
