Minor Notes: Primera stays hot; Delzine has a career day
The best performances last week were in the FCL with Franklin Primera (pictured) and Sadbiel Delzine continuing to dominate. The major league team got some reinforcements for the pitching staff, while five players got released. As a reminder, our 2026 Annual Donation Drive is officially underway, with a goal to raise $15,000 to keep SoxProspects.com running on all cylinders.

Whitlock and Bennett rejoin the big league club
After missing a little over two weeks with left knee inflammation, Garrett Whitlock got activated from the 15-day injured list. Jake Bennett also got recalled from Worcester, with Alec Gamboa and Anthony Seigler getting optioned to Triple-A. Bennett took the loss in his first appearance back up, allowing four runs over five innings against the Rays on Wednesday.
Five players released
Four players from the upper minors and one player from a lower level got released last week. CJ Liu and Jorge Juan were released from Portland, Jacob Webb and TJ Sikkema got released from Worcester, and Trent Wilson got released from the FCL. Liu was the only player to previously rank inside the top 40, peaking at number 23. The 27-year-old was signed out of Taiwan and struck out 145 batters in 114 1/3 innings with Portland in 2023. Arm and shoulder injuries have limited his playing time in recent years, and he had yet to debut in 2026.
Additional transactions
- Portland received two players last week, adding Stanley Tucker from Salem on June 13 and Michael Sansone from Worcester on June 14.
- Worcester made a pair of pitching-staff moves, placing Noah Song on the development list on June 12 before activating Tyler Uberstine from the seven-day injured list on June 14. Song posted six straight scoreless outings from May 8 through May 29
- At the lower levels, Salem sent Trennor O'Donnell to the FCL on a rehab assignment on June 12, while the DSL Red Sox activated Rinangel Mayora from the restricted list the following day.
Where are they now?
- The Cardinals called up Blaze Jordan, and he has started 5 for 12 with a home run and a triple in three games.
- Another former prospect had some fireworks with Braden Montgomery hitting a walk-off home run in his MLB debut on Tuesday. He is 5 for 19 over his first five games with the White Sox.

Players of the Week June 8-14
Franklin Primera, C, FCL Red Sox
4 G, 12 AB, 8 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, 5 BB, 1 K, .667/.778/1.333
It is the second straight Player of the Week award for Primera who is one of the hottest hitters in the minors in June. He is up to .600/.706/1.200 over eight games this month, with four home runs and 16 RBI. The 19-year-old was ranked 36th at the start of the season, but rocketed up to 13th in the latest update. Primera has always had a strong defensive profile, but the development of his bat has been the main driver of his recent rise. He is knocking on the door of Salem, and the other teams in the FCL are hoping that happens sooner than later.
Sadbiel Delzine, RHP, FCL Red Sox
1 G, 1-0, 6 1/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K
Delzine lowered his ERA to 1.16 with another dominant performance. The 18-year-old struck out a season-high eight batters while not issuing a walk for the first time this season. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Delzine is a high-upside arm who already has a four-pitch mix. He received the largest bonus of any pitcher in the Red Sox 2025 IFA class, and so far the results are backing that up.
