May Players of the Month: Jack Winnay and Barrett Morgan

The second full month of the minor league season is complete. With that, it is time to present the SoxProspects.com Players of the Month for May to corner infielder Jack Winnay (pictured, left) and right-hander Barrett Morgan (pictured, bottom right). Following our latest update, both prospects are now ranked in the organization's top 60 at Nos. 40 and 42, respectively.

Winnay, who grew up in Newton, Mass., and turned 23 on Friday, is a SoxProspects.com Player of the Month honoree for the first time after a productive May. In 20 games for Greenville, the right-handed hitter batted .290/.490/.623 with two doubles, seven home runs, 14 RBIs, 20 runs scored, 26 walks, and 23 strikeouts over 98 plate appearances. During that stretch, he recorded the first two multi-homer games of his professional career on May 16 and May 31. He also drew three walks in a game on four separate occasions.

For the season, Winnay is slashing .240/.431/.447 with four doubles, nine home runs, 25 RBIs, 36 runs scored, 46 walks, and 43 strikeouts through 45 games (204 plate appearances) for Greenville. The 2025 13th-round draft pick out of Wake Forest leads qualified Drive hitters in walks, walk rate (22.5%), and on-base percentage. Defensively, he has made 30 starts at third base, 13 starts at first base, and one start at designated hitter.

Morgan, another member of Boston's 2025 draft class, is a first-time SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month honoree. Selected in the 11th round out of Cowley County Community College (Arkansas City, Kan.) last summer, the 21-year-old righty had a strong May, forging a 2.08 ERA with 20 strikeouts to eight walks across five outings (four starts) spanning 21 2/3 innings for Salem. He held opposing hitters in the Carolina League to a .123 batting average during that stretch.

In nine outings (six starts) for Salem to begin his first professional season, Morgan has posted a 2.25 ERA with 31 strikeouts to 14 walks over 32 innings in which opponents have batted .161 against him. Throwing from a high-three-quarters arm slot, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound Oklahoma native features a 92-95 mph fastball that has reached 97 mph. He also mixes in an 87-89 mph cutter, a 79-83 mph curveball, and an 82-83 mph changeup.
