Cup of Coffee: Rodriguez ends homerless drought; Turner goes deep in Portland
6/19 Cup of Coffee: As the big league club continues to struggle, Boston's affiliates went 2-4 on Thursday. Tsung-Che Cheng tallied three hits, including a home run, in Worcester's loss to Lehigh Valley. Will Turner (pictured) went deep in Portland's win over Somerset. Yophery Rodriguez homered for the first time in over a month in Greenville's loss to Jersey Shore. Andrews Opata also left the yard in Salem's win over Fredericksburg. In rookie ball, the FCL squad was rained out, while both DSL squads were on the wrong end of blowouts.

Raymond Burgos went five innings in his start for Worcester, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. He threw 77 pitches (50 strikes) and generated five whiffs. Devin Sweet surrendered two additional runs in the sixth and was hit with the losing decision, while Zack Kelly and Wyatt Olds combined for two scoreless frames of relief.
Three of Worcester's four runs came by way of the long ball. Max Ferguson and Tyler McDonough belted back-to-back home runs off old friend Brian Keller in the fourth inning for their only hits of the night. Tsung-Che Cheng had three hits, including a fifth-inning solo shot for his seventh homer of the season. Allan Castro went 2 for 5 with an RBI single that scored Anthony Seigler. Mikey Romero went 2 for 4 with one walk.

Hayden Mullins went three-plus innings in his start for Portland, allowing three earned runs on five hits, four walks, one hit by pitch, and five strikeouts. He threw 74 pitches (42 strikes) and generated nine whiffs. Michael Sansone picked up the win in relief, yielding three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings before running out of gas and making way for Cade Feeney, who struck out the only batter he faced to notch the save.
Four members of Portland's lineup enjoyed multi-hit performances on Thursday. Leadoff man Marvin Alcantara went 2 for 3 with one double, one RBI, one run scored, one stolen base, and one walk. Batting behind him, Will Turner went 2 for 4 with a walk and a solo shot, good for his ninth homer of the season. Brooks Brannon doubled as part of a 2-for-4 night, while Stanley Tucker scored one run and stole one base in the process of going 2 for 3. Raudelis Martinez doubled in two runs and scored another. Ahbram Liendo also scored one run.

Jojo Ingrassia went three-plus innings in his start for Greenville, allowing one earned run on three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. He threw 59 pitches (34 strikes) and generated 11 whiffs. Tyler Davis and Matt McShane combined to give up seven additional runs across four innings of relief, while PJ Labriola worked a scoreless eighth inning.
At the plate, Luke Heyman went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run (his third since joining Greenville) and one walk. Yophery Rodriguez also belted a solo shot for his lone hit of the night and 11th homer of the season (first since May 15). Ronny Hernandez went 1 for 2 with one double and one RBI. Jack Winnay drew three walks and scored one run. Isaiah Jackson and Gerardo Rodriguez each scored one run as well.

Cole Tolbert got the start for Salem and went three innings, allowing one unearned run on no hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. He threw 48 pitches (29 strikes) and generated seven whiffs. Nicolas De La Cruz and Joey Gartrell surrendered three additional runs in 2 2/3 total innings, while Harry Blum and Jay Allmer combined for five strikeouts over 3 1/3 frames of one-run ball to close it out.
Offensively, Andruw Musett stood out, going 1 for 4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and one walk. Avinson Pinto also drove in two runs with his only hit of the night. Andrews Opata homered for the fourth time this season as part of a 1-for-4 showing in which he scored twice and walked once. Skylar King and Ilan Fernandez each doubled and walked, with the former scoring one run and the latter driving in another. Adonys Guzman went 1 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored. Givian Sirvania drove in one run, scored twice, stole one base, and drew two walks. Frederik Jimenez scored two runs and drew one walk.

Emanuel Jimenez took the loss in his start for the Blue squad, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits, two walks, and no strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings. Carlos Falcon struck out six but was tagged for two runs in 3 2/3 innings of relief. Jainer Almanza retired the only three batters he faced in a scoreless seventh inning. Offensively, the Blue squad was held to just two hits. Miguel Welch went 1 for 3 with a stolen base and scored his side's lone run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Garielvin Silverio, who went 1 for 2. Santiago Yanes drew three walks and stole one base.

Isaac Brujan took the loss in his start for the Red squad, allowing five earned runs on three hits, two walks, one hit by pitch, and three strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings. Ranci Castillo and Yariel Valdez combined to surrender eight additional runs (six earned) in 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. At the plate, Geomaikel Martinez provided the only real offense when he clubbed a two-run home run in the seventh for his second big fly of the year. Dawvris Brito went 1 for 3 with a double for his first professional extra-base hit.

Player of the Day: In 12 games for Portland this month, Will Turner is slashing .243/.417/.568 with four home runs, four RBI, nine runs scored, one stolen base, 11 walks, and 12 strikeouts. The 23-year-old outfielder's 22.5% walk rate on the season is best among qualified Eastern League hitters, while his .394 on-base percentage ranks fourth. He is not currently ranked among the organization's top 60 prospects.
