Cup of Coffee: Primera stays scorching as FCL Red Sox erupt for 26 runs
6/12 Cup of Coffee: Boston's affiliates went 1-6 on Thursday. Patrick Sandoval continued his rehab assignment, while Matt Thaiss homered in Game 1 of Worcester's doubleheader against Rochester. The second game was cancelled due to inclement weather. Will Turner went deep in Portland's loss to Reading. Jojo Ingrassia was a lone bright spot in Greenville's loss to Winston-Salem. D'Angelo Ortiz drove in two runs in Salem's loss to Fayetteville. In rookie ball, Franklin Primera (pictured) rattled off four hits, including a home run, as the FCL Red Sox trounced the FCL Braves.

Patrick Sandoval made the second start of his rehab assignment for Worcester, allowing one earned run on one hit (a solo home run), one walk, and three strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings. He threw 33 pitches (18 strikes) and generated five whiffs. Zack Kelly and Devin Sweet combined to give up five additional runs, while Joe La Sorsa tossed a scoreless sixth inning in his WooSox debut.
At the plate, Matt Thaiss accounted for his side's biggest hit of the day by going 1 for 3 with a three-run home run off old friend Luis Perales. He also drew a walk. Nathan Hickey went 1 for 3 with an RBI double off Perales. Tsung-Che Cheng and Allan Castro each stole a base, with the latter scoring one run. Mikey Romero and Anthony Seigler drew one walk and scored one run apiece.
Worcester Red Sox @ Rochester Red Wings (WAS) (Game 2; Cancelled)
Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader was cancelled due to inclement weather. Brayan Bello was scheduled to make his first start for Worcester since being optioned last week, but that will have to wait at least one more day.

Dalton Rogers went three innings in his start for Portland, allowing four earned runs on six hits (including two home runs), three walks, and one strikeout. He threw 60 pitches (31 strikes) and generated four whiffs. Max Carlson and Erik Rivera combined for four scoreless frames of relief, while Reidis Sena was tagged for one run in his lone inning of work.
Will Turner stood out offensively, going 2 for 5 with his seventh home run of the season, one RBI, and two runs scored. Brooks Brannon and Johanfran Garcia each went 2 for 5 with one double and one RBI. Caden Rose singled and stole two bases, while Franklin Arias and Nelly Taylor both drew two walks.

Jojo Ingrassia got the start for Greenville and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out four over three scoreless innings. He threw 49 pitches (27 strikes) and generated five whiffs. Joe Vogatsky, PJ Labriola, and Matt McShane gave up nine combined runs across six innings out of the bullpen. On the flip side, it was a quiet night for the Drive bats. Yophery Rodriguez accounted for half of his side's hits by going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. Freili Encarnacion drew one walk, stole one base, and scored his side's only run. Justin Gonzales drew one walk and swiped one base as well.

Leighton Finley went 4 1/3 innings in his start for Salem, allowing four earned runs on five hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. He threw 77 pitches (47 strikes) and generated nine whiffs. Nicolas De La Cruz, Wuilliams Rodriguez, and Harry Blum combined to surrender eight additional runs over 4 2/3 innings of relief.
Offensively, Salem was held to four hits as a team. Ilan Fernandez went 1 for 2 with one double, one RBI, and two walks. Louis Andujar also doubled and scored one run as part of a 1-for-4 night. D'Angelo Ortiz singled in two runs with his only hit of the contest. Avinson Pinto drove in one run and scored another. Frederik Jimenez and Anderson Fermin each drew one walk and scored one run. Skylar King scored once and stole his 20th base of the season.

Franklin Primera starred in Thursday's blowout, going 4 for 5 with one home run, six RBIs, four runs scored, and two walks. Five others put together multi-hit performances as well. Harold Rivas went 2 for 4 with one double, four runs scored, and two walks. Tavano Baker went 2 for 5 with one double, one triple, two RBIs, one run scored, and one walk. Jhoan Peguero doubled, drove in three runs, scored five times, stole one base, and drew three walks as part of a 2-for-3 day. Liosward Marin and Edwin Darville each went 2 for 5. Marin homered, plated one run, scored three times, stole one base, and drew one walk. Darville doubled, plated four runs, scored three times, and stole one base.
On the mound, Berny Ortiz got the start and went the first four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Christopher Cordero notched the first win of his professional career with three scoreless frames of relief in which he scattered two hits, two walks, and one strikeout. Yoelvin Chirino surrendered four runs in the eighth, but bounced back with a scoreless ninth inning to wrap things up.

Angel Lopez lasted just two-thirds of an inning in his first start of the season. He walked two and struck out another before departing. Emanuel Jimenez took over out of the bullpen and pitched well, scattering three walks and striking out eight across 4 1/3 scoreless, no-hit frames. Carlos Falcon put up a zero in the sixth, but was ultimately charged with the loss after allowing the tying and winning runs to score in the seventh and eighth innings.
Offensively, the Blue squad was held to four hits (all singles) as a team. Anderson Gonzalez, who went 1 for 2, drove in his side's lone run when he drew a bases-loaded walk to score Garielvin Silverio in the first inning. Silverio, Eber Miranda, and Dilan Mata all drew walks as well.

Ranfi Vargas made his professional debut and first start for the Red squad, issuing two walks and hitting one batter in a scoreless first inning. Isaac Brujan relieved Vargas and took the loss out of the bullpen, surrendering seven earned runs on six hits (including two home runs), four walks, and two strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings. Ranci Castillo gave up an additional four runs across 2 2/3 innings of his own.
At the plate, Axell Herrera went 1 for 2 with his first professional home run, one RBI, two runs scored, and two walks. Eliezer Alfonzo doubled in one run and drew one walk as part of a 1-for-2 showing. Joskairo Ramirez tripled and scored one run. Anderber Urbina drove in one run, scored another, stole one base, and drew two walks. Edgardo Gutierrez also stole a base.

Player of the Day: Franklin Primera gets the nod for reaching a new career high in total bases (7) on Thursday. The soon-to-be 19-year-old catcher is now riding a 10-game hitting streak dating back to May 25, in which he has gone 17 for 33 (.515) with two doubles, four home runs, 17 RBIs, 16 runs scored, three stolen bases, eight walks, and five strikeouts. Originally signed for $10,000 out of Venezuela in September 2024, Primera is currently ranked as the organization's No. 13 prospect.
