Cup of Coffee: Gonzalez begins rehab assignment; Futrell throws seven scoreless
6/17 Cup of Coffee: It was a night full of thrills in the Red Sox system, as the WooSox rode a ninth-inning rally to a win while the Sea Dogs and FCL Sox won in walk-off fashion. Romy Gonzalez began his rehab assignment with a blast in Portland, while Devin Futrell was the star of the show in a low-scoring win for the Drive. Barrett Morgan had a strong outing in a loss for Salem and the DSL teams were swept, with the Blue squad losing both games of a doubleheader.

The Sea Dogs started their week in exciting fashion, coming from behind to win the game with a thrilling ninth-inning rally. Marvin Alcantara tied the game with a one-out solo shot, his fifth of the season, and the Sea Dogs went on to win on a walk-off double off the bat of Stanley Tucker. Playing in a game for the first time this season as he begins a rehab assignment with Portland, Romy Gonzalez blasted a home run over the Maine Monster in the third inning. Gonzalez started at second base and was 1 for 2 with a walk. Nate Baez was 1 for 4 with a solo home run.
Somerset scored all of their runs against starter Blake Wehunt with the help of some shaky Portland defense. Wehunt allowed six runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. Caleb Bolden was fantastic over 3 1/3 innings, striking out five batters and allowing just a hit. Patrick Halligan allowed a hit and struck out a batter in two shutout innings.

Left-hander Devin Futrell turned in a dominant performance on Tuesday night, as he blanked the BlueClaws for seven innings while surrendering just two hits and walking none. Steven Brooks earned the save with two innings out of the bullpen, allowing one run while striking out three. It was a slow night for the Greenville bats but they were able to scrape together just enough offense for the win. The Drive scored both of their runs in a fifth-inning rally as Enddy Azocar drove in a run with a double and Mason White scored on a wild pitch. Jack Winnay reached base in all four of his plate appearances, going 3 for 3 with a double and a walk.

Starter Barrett Morgan had an impressive outing in Fredericksburg, fanning six batters while allowing two runs (one earned) in four innings. However, the bullpen was unable to hold the game within reach as Jay Allmer gave up three runs in an inning of work. Andrews Opata and D'Angelo Ortiz drove in Salem's only runs with an RBI double in the third and an RBI single in the fourth, respectively. A solo home run for Garielvin Silverio was the highlight of a quiet day for the DSL Blue squad. Silverio, who received the highest bonus in Boston's 2026 international free agent class, was 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored. He now has two home runs and is slashing .268/.367/.415 through 12 games. Enmanuel Figuereo drove in the team's only other run of the game with an RBI single in the first. The DSL Red team played a doubleheader against the Padres Gold, as they made up a rainout from June 6th. The Red squad lost a slugfest in the first game of the doubleheader, with Joskairo Ramirez leading the way with a monster game. Ramirez was 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles, a walk, four runs, and three RBI. Wilneyker Bruce also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 and driving in a pair of runs. Starter Robert Moreno threw 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks. Jose Alexandro tossed an inning of relief and allowed six runs (three earned). Position players Stiven De La Cruz and Gustavo Antunez combined for 1 1/3 shutout innings of relief. Before switching over to the mound in the late innings, Antunez reached base in all three of his plate appearances, going 1 for 1 with two walks.

He allowed just two hits in seven shutout innings, striking out five batters and throwing 69% of his pitches for strikes.
