Cup of Coffee: DSL season begins; FCL Red Sox draw 15 walks in win
6/2 Cup of Coffee: The 2026 Dominican Summer League season began on Monday, as DSL Red Sox Blue lost and DSL Red Sox Red won their Opening Day matchups. In the Florida Complex League, Christopher Alvarado (pictured) and the FCL Red Sox rode a seven-run first inning to a win over the FCL Pirates in Bradenton.

Despite only recording four hits, the FCL Red Sox drew 15 walks and broke out for 14 runs on Monday. Harold Rivas accounted for three of those walks, as he went 1 for 3 with one RBI, one run scored, and one stolen base. Josue Brito, who had one double, one RBI, and two runs, and Christopher Alvarado, who had three RBIs, two runs scored, two stolen bases, and two walks, each went 1 for 3 as well. Franklin Primera singled, drew two walks, and scored three runs. Jhorman Bravo drove in two runs, scored another, stole two bases, and drew two walks. Dorian Soto scored one run, stole one base, and drew two walks. Tavano Baker drove in one run, scored twice, stole one base, and drew two walks. Jostin Ogando drove in two runs, scored once, and drew one walk.
On the mound, Angelo Ladera made his fifth start of the season and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on three hits, four walks, one hit by pitch, and five strikeouts. Yoelvin Chirino and Yander Bonaci surrendered five additional runs out of the bullpen. Yomar De La Rosa, on the other hand, notched his second win of the year by retiring the only three batters he faced in a scoreless seventh inning.

Santiago Yanes stood out at the plate, going 2 for 3 with one home run, four RBIs, two runs scored, one stolen base, and two walks in his professional debut. Isaac Velasquez, also making his pro debut, went 2 for 3 with one double, one RBI, and one walk. Freyerso Vasquez, another member of the 2026 international signing class, went 2 for 4 with one run scored and one walk. Miguel Welch scored one run, stole one base, and scored one run. Garielven Silverio and Kevin Morillo scored runs as well.
Allan Griman took the loss in his first start of the season after allowing four earned runs on six hits (including one home run), no walks, and five strikeouts over three innings. Leosmar Perez and Jesus Martinez surrendered five additional runs across six total innings of relief.

Joskairo Ramirez showed off his power stroke in his pro debut, going 2 for 3 with two home runs, three RBIs, three runs scored, and two walks out of the leadoff spot. Edgardo Gutierrez and Lester Suarez both went deep as well. Gutierrez went 1 for 5 with a two-run blast and two runs scored, while Suarez went 2 for 4 with an RBI double, a grand slam, and one walk. Geomaikel Martinez went 2 for 5 with one double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Axell Herrera scored three runs, stole two bases, and drew one walk. Jhonny Osta scored two runs and drew two walks.
Steven Garcia went 2 1/3 innings in his first professional start, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits, two walks, one hit by pitch, and one strikeout. Dani Richar and Jose Alexandro gave up six additional runs, while Isael Fis earned the win with 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief in which he scattered three hits and one walk while striking out one.

Player of the Day: Joskairo Ramirez gets the nod for the multi-homer performance in his first professional game. The 17-year-old outfielder out of the Dominican Republic received the third-largest bonus ($800,000) in Boston's 2026 international signing class. He is not yet ranked among the organization's top 60 prospects.
