Minor Notes: Sogard called up; Gonzales gets the national spotlight
This week’s roundup highlights key movement across the system, from updated prospect rankings to notable performances and injury developments. A few rising names are gaining national attention, while others are making their case for a call-up. Here’s a look at the latest news and standout players across the organization.

Rankings updates
Mike joined Ian on the most recent episode of the Podcast to break down the new SoxProspects.com rankings for May. They each picked three players whose rankings caught their eye while going through a detailed breakdown of the big changes.

Mike and Ian were back at it again, discussing the big league team's recent performance, as well as checking in on notable performances so far for each affiliate.
Sogard up; Story to the IL
With Trevor Story getting placed on the 10-day injured list with a sports hernia, the club recalled utilityman Nick Sogard (pictured, right) from Worcester. Story's timeline is still unclear as he may need surgery. Sogard put up strong numbers in Worcester this year, batting .269/.417/.454 with five home runs in 36 games.
National rankings updates
As a 19-year-old posting a .938 OPS over 137 at-bats in High-A, it is no surprise that Justin Gonzales is getting more national recognition. He is now the 98th-ranked prospect in baseball for both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. Right-hander Kyson Witherspoon also cracked the top-100 for MLB Pipeline, coming in at number 88.
Baseball America also released an updated top-30 prospect list for Boston. The top pitcher on the list is now Anthony Eyanson, who they have ranked second in the system.
No-hitter in the FCL
In true FCL-fashion, the Red Sox tossed a no-hitter that was not a shutout as a walk, a balk, a steal, and a groundout led to a run scoring. A rehabbing Osvaldo Berrios tossed the first three frames, with Sadbiel Delzine and Juanyerlin Duran combining on the last six innings.
Injury updates
It was a mix of good and bad news on the injury front last week, with Salem being particularly hard hit.
- Worcester placed Osvaldo Berrios on a rehab assignment. After helping the FCL Red Sox toss a no-hitter earlier in the week, he had another solid showing in Greenville on Saturday. The WooSox can use the help, as they just placed Isaac Coffey on the seven-day injured list with knee inflammation.
- Boston placed Danny Coulombe in Portland on a rehab assignment. The left-hander made a rehab appearance on Friday, posting a scoreless inning for the Sea Dogs.
- Salem placed Dalvinson Reyes, Ethan Walker, and Ty Hodge on the seven-day injured list. No corresponding moves have been made to fill their roster spots.
- As expected, Greenville transferred Juan Valera to the full-season injured list as he underwent Tommy John surgery on May 6.
Where are they now?
- Jhostynxon ("the Password") García is getting promoted to Pittsburgh. Old friend Nick Yorke got optioned to make room for him. Last week, Garcia launched three home runs as part of a five-hit night. He missed a few weeks with an injury this year, but he has performed well since returning.
- Alex Verdugo, the centerpiece of the Mookie Betts trade, was released from his minor league contract by the Padres. The 30-year-old needs season-ending shoulder surgery.

Jack Winnay, 1B/3B, Grenville Drive
5 G, 16 AB, 8 H, 1 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 7 R, 7 BB, 6K, .500/.652/1.125
Winnay, Boston's 13th-round pick in the 2025 draft, entered last week with a triple slash of .198/378/.292. He was doing a good job of controlling the strike zone, as he had as many walks as strikeouts (24), but the hits were not falling. That flipped against first-place Bowling Green. The 22-year-old went 8 for 16 and walked 7 times while mashing three home runs. Winnay has a good chance of being a fan favorite, as he grew up in Newton, Mass., and attended Belmont Hill High School. In the blink of an eye, his OPS is up to .831 with both his on-base and slugging percentages over .400.
Winnay did not win the South Atlantic League Player of the Week award as a Rangers prospect hit .520 with 29 total bases over five games in Asheville's launching pad. The Red Sox had two other players win Player of the Week awards, with Enddy Azocar (pictured, left) topping the Carolina League and Louis Andujar taking the crown in the FCL.
Patrick Halligan, RHP, Portland Sea Dogs
2 G, 1-0, 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
Halligan's first outing came in relief on Wednesday, where he picked up a win while walking one over two otherwise spotless frames. That runner was ultimately caught stealing, so he faced the minimum in that appearance. On Saturday, the 27-year-old got a late, unexpected, spot start as Jedixson Paez was scratched with a sore hip. He faced the minimum again, retiring all 12 batters he faced. He struck out four, though he did not factor in the decision. Halligan was signed as a minor league free agent in January and has pitched to a 5.70 ERA over 23 2/3 innings. His 2025 season started in the Braves organization and ended in Houston's. He posted strong numbers for Double-A Corpus Christi, with an ERA of 3.48 over 51 2/3 innings with 62 strikeouts.
The two performances were also good enough for Halligan to win the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week award.
