Cup of Coffee: Berrios, Delzine, and Duran throw combined no-hitter in FCL
5/13 Cup of Coffee: The lowest active level of the Red Sox system was the headliner of the day, as Osvaldo Berrios, Sadbiel Delzine, and Juanyerlin Duran combined to pitch a no-hitter on a memorable day in the FCL. The Sea Dogs blasted three home runs and Hayden Mullins (pictured) fanned eight batters but Portland lost on a walkoff in their series opener. Worcester, Greenville, and Salem put together quiet nights as each team scored two or fewer runs in losses.

Making his first start in the organization after signing a minor league deal last week, Raymond Burgos allowed three runs (one earned) in five innings, walking three and striking out two. Jacob Webb surrendered three runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Kyle Keller followed him with 1 2/3 innings of one-run ball. It was a quiet night for the Worcester lineup, as their two runs came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nick Sogard and an RBI single for Vinny Capra. Capra was 1 for 3 with a walk. Braiden Ward was 1 for 3 with a double, Worcester's only extra-base hit of the game.

The Sea Dogs started the game with a bang as Johanfran Garcia blasted a three-run opposite-field homer and Marvin Alcantara followed him with a solo shot in the first inning. Will Turner hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season, in the fifth inning as part of a 1-for-4 game. Franklin Arias went 2 for 5, scoring a run and driving in a run on a groundout in the seventh. Miguel Bleis went 3 for 4.
Hayden Mullins struck out eight batters and generated 17 swings and misses in an impressive performance, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk in five innings. Through 27 2/3 innings with Portland this season, Mullins has a 3.58 ERA and 42 strikeouts. However, the bullpen let the Sea Dogs down as Erik Rivera gave up three runs in 2 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking two. Caleb Bolden took the loss as he allowed a walkoff home run to Hartford right fielder Benny Montgomery in the bottom of the ninth.

2025 first-rounder Kyson Witherspoon has struggled to begin his first professional season and he had another shaky start on Tuesday. He allowed two quick runs in the first inning then settled down in the middle innings before allowing another Hot Rods rally in the fifth. Overall, Witherspoon allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings, striking out only one batter. Ben Hansen followed him with a strong performance out of the bullpen, striking out five batters and allowing one run in 3 1/3 innings. PJ Labriola added a scoreless ninth inning. The Drive scored their only run on a fifth-inning single by Yoeilin Cespedes, who was 1 for 4 in the game. Justin Gonzales was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.

Salem starter Madinson Frias held Fredericksburg hitless for the first five innings before unraveling and allowing three runs in the sixth. Overall, Frias lasted 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk while striking out four batter. Adam Bates struck out two in 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and Wuilliams Rodriguez allowed one unearned run in an inning. The RidgeYaks collected only three hits on the night, with Skylar King going 2 for 3 and Starlyn Nunez going 1 for 3.

It was a historic day in the FCL, as a trio of right-handers threw a combined no-hitter. Osvaldo Berrios tossed the first three innings of the game, allowing no hits or walks while notching three strikeouts. Sadbiel Delzine allowed the only run of the game to score for the Pirates, as he allowed a couple of walks, but he also struck out five batters in 3 1/3 hitless frames. Juanyerlin Duran was dominant in 2 2/3 innings to finish the game, striking out six batters and walking two.
The FCL Red Sox were in control right from the start of the game, with Josue Brito launching a three-run homer as part of a four-run first inning. First baseman Franklin Primera reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 4 for 4 with a double and a walk. Dorian Soto was 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored. Louis Andujar continued his strong start to the season, going 2 for 4 with a walk and his fourth double of the year.

Player of the Day: It is rare that a team combines to throw a no-hitter without one pitcher delivering a standout performance but that was the case on Tuesday night in the FCL. In the FCL Sox combined no-hitter, Osvaldo Berrios (3 innings), Sadbiel Delzine (3 1/3 innings), and Juanyerlin Duran split the Player of the Day honors after equally impressive outings. Delzine and Duran each allowed a pair of baserunners, while Berrios pitched three perfect innings. However, Delzine and Duran also displayed electric stuff as they struck out five and six batters, respectively. Delzine is the highest-rated prospect of the trio, coming in at 25th in the SoxProspects.com rankings, and he has been impressive in his stateside debut this season.
