Cup of Coffee: Arias homers again for the Sea Dogs, Greenville gets washed out again
5/24 Cup of Coffee: A rough Saturday for the Boston affiliates resulted in a winless day along with yet another washout for Greenville. In Portland, Franklin Arias (pictured) added to his home run total with a blast, Enddy Azocar continued to mash Single-A pitching, and the FCL squad got roughed up in its matchup.

Michael Sansone put the WooSox in an early hole as the team found itself trailing 6-0 entering the bottom of the sixth. Sansone took the loss with four runs allowed in 5 1/3 innings of work, he struck out four and walked a batter but also allowed a home run. Eduardo Rivera allowed the other three runs to score over 1 2/3 frames while struggling with his command as he walked three and struck out four. Noah Song pitched the final two innings with no hits, a walk and a pair of strikeouts.
Offensively, Nate Eaton led the way with a 3-for-4 outing while adding two stolen bases. Kristian Campbell added a double and a run-scoring single, and Vinny Capra had two RBIs coming from a single in the sixth.

The Sea Dogs carried a combined no-hitter into the seventh, where Joe Vogatsky allowed a leadoff single to break up the bid as part of a six-run inning. Vogatsky was tagged for all six runs on five hits while only recording two outs. Through the first six innings, Jedixson Paez and Dalton Rogers combined to hold Reading hitless with three innings of work each. Paez retired all nine hitters he faced while Rogers walked a single hitter in his appearance. Through six frames, Portland put themselves ahead 2-0 thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Nate Baez in the third and Tyler McDonough in the sixth. After Portland fell behind for good, Franklin Arias belted a solo home run to make it 7-3 in the eighth. The blast was Arias' 11th of the season and third in the last two games, bringing his OPS on the season to 1.079 in 35 games.

Salem looked poised to wrap up at least a split of the series but faltered late after giving up five runs in the bottom of the eighth. Salem grabbed a 2-0 lead in the sixth after Kleyver Salazar doubled home Starlyn Nunez, who singled with one out in the inning followed by a walk from Andrews Opata. During the very next at bat, a wild pitch allowed Opata to cross home. Leighton Finley was excellent for the RidgeYaks, holding Hill City scoreless over his five innings of work. The right-hander struck out six and allowed three hits and two walks. Harry Blum came on to pitch the sixth and seventh and ran into trouble in the eighth before Adam Bates followed him and was charged with a blown save.
Trailing 5-2 entering the ninth, Salem attempted to mount a comeback as Enddy Azocar tripled home D'Angelo Ortiz and Givian Sirvania to cut the deficit to one. With the tying run standing at third with one out, Nunez struck out swinging, Opata and Salazar walked, and Anderson Fermin struck out to end the game.

The Red Sox pitching staff allowed runs in six of the seven innings played on Saturday as they fell to 6-10 on the season. It was a tough rehab assignment for Brady Tygart, who allowed six runs (five earned runs) in an inning of work in his first appearance on the mound in 2026. He also walked two and struck out one batter. Carter Rasmussen ran into trouble for the second straight outing, surrendering eight runs while recording a single out in his outing. Trailing 19-0 entering the final half inning, the Red Sox scraped across their only two runs of the game on an RBI ground out by Jostin Ogando followed by a run-scoring double by Dorian Soto. Ogando and Soto each had a hit along with a triple by Christopher Alvarado to account for the only three hits the squad could muster.

Player of the Day: Stop us if you've heard this before, but Franklin Arias' play on Saturday earned him yet another Player of the Day honor. The shortstop hit his 11th home run of the season to add to his career-high in a season. What is even more impressive than his power stroke is his control of the strike zone, with just 19 strikeouts in 149 plate appearances this season. Arias is the SoxProspects' 2nd-ranked prospect in the system.
