Cup of Coffee: Andujar named FCL Player of the Week; Brito doubles twice in loss

5/19 Cup of Coffee:
Fresh off being named the Florida Complex League Player of the Week, Louis Andujar (pictured) and the FCL Red Sox fell to the FCL Orioles in Sarasota on Monday. Yander Bonaci was a bright spot on the pitching front, while Josue Brito had arguably his most productive day at the plate since making his stateside debut earlier this month.

Angelo Ladera took the loss in his third start of the season after allowing five earned runs on five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts in two innings. Yoelvin Chirino and Yoandys Veraza combined to surrender six additional runs (five earned), while Yander Bonaci struck out three over 1 2/3 perfect frames of relief.

At the plate, Josue Brito led the way with two doubles, one RBI, and one run scored. Christopher Alvarado also drove in one run, drew one walk, and stole one base as part of a 1-for-2 day. Louis Andujar, Jhorman Bravo, and Jostin Ogando each scored one run, with Bravo adding a walk and a stolen base. Franklin Primera drew two walks.

Player of the Day: Josue Brito gets the nod for putting together his first multi-hit game of the season. The 19-year-old first baseman/outfielder is now batting .206/.308/.382 with three doubles, one home run, eight RBIs, five runs scored, two stolen bases, five walks, and eight strikeouts in nine games (39 plate appearances) for the FCL Red Sox. Originally signed out of Venezuela for $20,000 in January 2024, Brito was recognized as Boston's 2025 Latin Program Position Player of the Year following a strong repeat campaign in the Dominican Summer League. He is not currently ranked among the organization's top 60 prospects.
