Cup of Coffee: Ortiz tallies 3 hits, 3 RBIs for Salem on Labor Day
9/2 Cup of Coffee: Salem was the only Boston affiliate in action on Labor Day. Behind a three-hit effort from D'Angelo Ortiz (pictured) and solid offensive performances from Jack Winnay, Enddy Azocar, and Gerardo Rodriguez, the Red Sox defeated the Fayetteville Woodpeckers by a final score of 8-5 to begin their final series of the season.

Griffin Kilander got the start and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Calvin Bickertsaff surrendered three additional runs, while Nicolas De La Cruz (who was credited with the winning decision) and Eyberrson Polanco (who recorded the save) combined to strike out five over four scoreless frames of relief. At the plate, D'Angelo Ortiz led the way by going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, one run scored, and one stolen base. Jack Winnay and Enddy Azocar each went 2 for 4 with one double and two runs scored. Azocar stole one base as well. Gerardo Rodriguez and Natanael Yuten each doubled, with the former driving in two runs and scoring another, and the latter scoring once. Starlyn Nunez tripled for his lone hit of the afternoon.

Player of the Day: D'Angelo Ortiz gets the nod for recording his second three-hit game of the year and his first at the Low-A level on Monday. The right-handed hitting corner infielder is batting .268/.368/.298 with five doubles, one triple, 28 RBIs, 29 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, 36 walks, and 53 strikeouts in 75 games (269 plate appearances) between the FCL and Salem this season after being selected in the 19th round of the 2024 draft out of Miami Dade College. He is, of course, the son of Red Sox legend David Ortiz.
