Cup of Coffee: Campbell, Garcia homer; Early, Holobetz put together solid starts
8/15 Cup of Coffee: While the big club was off, Boston's affiliates went 5-2 on Thursday. Jhostynxon Garcia and Kristian Campbell were among those to homer in Worcester's high-scoring win over Iowa. John Holobetz pitched into the seventh inning, and Ahbram Liendo (pictured) provided some late-game heroics in Portland's walk-off win over Somerset. Justin Gonzales racked up three hits in Game 1, and Frederik Jimenez went deep in Game 2 of Salem's doubleheader against Fredericksburg. In the Dominican Summer League, Harold Rivas and Williams Montero enjoyed strong performances on their respective sides of the ball.

Four members of Worcester's lineup tallied multiple hits on Thursday. Jhostynxon Garcia went 3 for 5 with his 17th Triple-A home run (20th overall) of the season, one RBI, and three runs scored. Kristian Campbell went 2 for 4 with his sixth Triple-A home run of the season, two RBIs, three runs scored, and one stolen base. Nate Eaton went 2 for 3 with one home run, four RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks. Mikey Romero went 2 for 5 with four RBIs. David Hamilton and Trayce Thompson both left the yard with their only hits of the night, though Hamilton scored an additional run, drew one walk, and stole two bases.
Connelly Early went five innings in his start for Worcester, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. He threw 89 pitches (52 strikes) and generated five whiffs. Fellow lefty Chris Murphy followed by striking out two of the three batters he faced in a scoreless bottom of the sixth. Cooper Criswell and Wyatt Olds, on the other hand, combined to give up seven runs in the late stages before Hobie Harris recorded the contest's final out for his fourth save of the year.

John Holobetz pitched well in his start for Portland, allowing two earned runs on four hits, one walk, and four strikeouts over a season-high 6 2/3 innings. He threw 89 pitches (59 strikes) and generated 11 whiffs. Yovanny Cruz earned his first win of the season after scattering three walks and striking out three across 2 1/3 scoreless frames of relief. Offensively, Juan Chacon led the way by going 1 for 2 with an RBI double and two walks. Karson Simas also drew two walks, scored on Chacon's double, and stole one base. Allan Castro and Caden Rose each stole a base as well. Miguel Bleis, who pinch-ran for Rose with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, scored the winning run when Ahbram Liendo reached on a walk-off fielding error.

Adam Smith took the loss in his start for Greenville, allowing three earned runs on three hits (including one home run), two walks, and three strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings. Manuel Medina and Joe Vogatsky did not fare much better in relief, as they combined to give up five additional runs in 4 1/3 frames. At the plate, Justin Riemer went 2 for 2 with one walk before being replaced in left field by Juan Montero in the bottom of the seventh. Henry Godbout doubled in his lone plate appearance but was removed from the game in the middle of the first and was replaced at second base by Fraymi De Leon.
With the loss, Greenville drops to 24-21 in the second half and remains tied with first-half winner Bowling Green for first place in the South Atlantic League South division standings.

This game began on Wednesday night but was suspended in the bottom of the fifth due to electrical issues at Fredericksburg's stadium. Alex Bouchard got the start and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on four walks and four strikeouts. Joey Gartrell gave up one unearned run out of the bullpen, while Brady Tygart (who earned his first professional win) and PJ Labriola (who recorded his fourth save) combined to strike out eight across 4 2/3 scoreless, one-hit frames of relief. Justin Gonzales stood out offensively by going 3 for 5 with one double and two runs scored. Yoielin Cespedes and Natanael Yuten each doubled twice, with the latter adding two RBIs and one walk. Starlyn Nunez and Skylar King scored one run apiece.
Adam Bates got the start for Salem in Thursday's regularly scheduled contest and went the first 4 1/3 innings, yielding four earned runs on four hits (including one home run), three walks, and two strikeouts. Calvin Bickerstaff allowed two additional runs in his 1 2/3 innings of relief. On the flip side, Frederik Jimenez homered for the fifth time this season as part of a 1-for-3 showing. Yuten also went 1 for 3 with one RBI. Nunez scored one run, stole one base, and drew two walks.
Following Thursday's doubleheader split, Salem sports a 20-25 record in the second half and trails Carolina (25-17) by 6 1/2 games for first place in the Carolina League North division standings.

This game was called in the top of the seventh due to lightning. Oscar Vaamonde and Rony Calderon pitched well. The former allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out three over three scoreless innings in his start. The latter followed with three shutout frames of his own out of the bullpen to notch the win. At the plate, Harold Rivas stood out by going 2 for 4 with one double, two RBIs, and one run scored. Edwin Darville (scored one run), Louis Andujar (drove in one run), and Jostin Ogando (scored one run) all recorded multiple hits as well. Lester Suarez scored two runs and drew one walk, while Diomar Hidalgo plated two runs, scored another, and drew one walk.
With the win, the Blue squad improves to 30-21 on the season and remains 1 1/5 games up on DSL Rays (29-23) for first place in the Dominican Summer League North division standings.

Montero, getting the start, scattered one hit and two walks while striking out three over four scoreless innings. Perez followed with three more strikeouts across two shutout frames of relief to secure the victory. Offensively, Givian Sirvania went 2 for 3 with one run scored, one walk, and one stolen base. Franklin Primera and Geomaikel Martinez each had two hits as well, with the former driving in two runs and scoring another, and the latter scoring once. Kevin Morillo went 1 for 2 with one double, two RBIs, one run scored, and one walk. Miguel Welch drove in one run, scored twice, stole one base, and drew two walks. Adrian Valdez and Alexander Alzi combined for three RBIs and two runs scored. Dorian Soto and Kenyon Simmons also scored runs.

Player of the Day: Nate Eaton gets the nod for his productive night at the plate in Iowa. The versatile 28-year-old is now slashing .288/.370/.484 with 24 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 55 RBIs, 62 runs scored, 14 stolen bases, 37 walks, and 85 strikeouts in 91 games (387 plate appearances) for Worcester this season. Signed to a minor league contract last November, Eaton has also appeared in 14 games at the major league level since being added to Boston's 40-man roster in early June.
