Cup of Coffee: Alzi, Simmons hit first professional homers in DSL
8/19 Cup of Coffee: Due to wet grounds for DSL Red Sox Blue, DSL Red Sox Red was the only Boston affiliate in action on Monday. Alexander Alzi and Kenyon Simmons homered for the first time as professionals, while Felix Belisario and Breylin Cruz held their own out of the bullpen to lift the Red squad to an extra-innings victory.

This game was cancelled due to wet grounds and is unlikely to be made up with the 2025 Dominican Summer League regular season ending on Tuesday.

A seven-run 10th inning propelled the Red squad to a win in extras. Kenyon Simmons led the way offensively by going 2 for 4 with a solo home run, one stolen base, and one walk. Alexander Alzi also crushed a three-run blast for his only hit of the contest. Franklin Primera went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Gustavo Antunez doubled, drove in one run, scored twice, and drew two walks as part of a 1-for-3 day. Givian Sirvania and Adrian Valdez each scored one run and drew two walks as well. Miguel Welch scored three times out of the leadoff spot. On the mound, Berny Ortiz got the start and went three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. Felix Belisario and Breylin Cruz (who was credited with the winning decision) combined to strike out five across 4 2/3 scoreless frames of relief.

Player of the Day: Kenyon Simmons gets the nod for hitting the first home run of his professional career on Monday. The 18-year-old infielder has batted .210/.333/.306 with three doubles, one homer, eight RBIs, nine runs scored, six stolen bases, eight walks, and 17 strikeouts in 24 games (76 plate appearances) for the Red squad this season. He originally signed with Boston for $100,000 as an international free agent coming out of Nicaragua in January 2024.
