Red Sox select Maximus Martin with 10th-round pick

With the 298th overall pick in the 2025 MLB First-Year Player Draft, the Red Sox selected Maximus Martin, a shortstop out of Kansas State. He is ranked 223rd by MLB Pipeline and 184th by Baseball America

Martin is a 21-year old who is coming off his junior season at Kansas State. He has switched schools a couple of times, playing his freshman season at Rutgers and his sophomore season at Georgia State. In 2025 at Kansas State, he batted .320/.420/.612 with 18 doubles, 14 home runs, five stolen bases, 54 RBI, 30 walks, and 55 strikeouts in 56 games. Although he played a majority of his games at shortstop, he also played one game at second base and another 18 in center field.

Martin bats and throws right-handed and is listed at 6-foot and 190 pounds. He is from Edgewater Park, New Jersey, and attended Moorestown High School. According to MLB Pipeline, Martin's best tool is his plus raw power, which plays well to the pull side. He has good bat speed and posts high exit velocities, although there are some concerns about his ability to consistently make contact. He has a swing-happy approach and hits fastballs well. He can flash plus speed, but isn't very aggressive on the bases. His long-term position is up in the air, as his average arm could push him from shortstop to either second base or the outfield.

Martin makes it 11 consecutive college juniors taken by Boston in this year's draft. He is the third position player they have selected. The full slot value for the 298th pick in this year's draft is $191,300.
