Red Sox select Mason White with fourth-round pick
With the 118th overall pick in the 2025 MLB First-Year Player Draft, the Red Sox selected Mason White, a shortstop from Arizona.
A local product out of Salpointe Catholic HS in Tucson, White had a big draft year, as he was given an All-American nod by Perfect Game (second team) and D1Baseball.com (third team). He was also the most valuable player of both the Big 12 Tournament and Eugene Regional with a .327/.412/.689 slash line, including 20 home runs.
However, some swing-and-miss comes with that raw power, as he struck out 65 times in 257 at-bats in 2025, though that's down significantly from 85 punchouts in 239 at-bats last season.
White is listed at 5-foot-11, 171 pounds and while he was entrenched at shortstop the past two seasons for the Wildcats, he has gotten some time at both second base and shortstop, as well as in the outfield, both as a freshman and in the Cape Cod League, where he has played two summers. MLB Pipeline is of the opinion he may need to slide over to second base, though he is athletic.
MLB Pipeline is the highest on him, with a No. 143 ranking, but ESPN (No. 155) and Baseball America (No. 161) aren't far behind on the power-over-hit infielder.
The full slot value for this choice is $642,200.
