Cup of Coffee: Fermin, Ortiz combine for three RBIs in FCL; Bravo, Ramos homer in DSL


7/18 Cup of Coffee:
As the All-Star break winds down, Boston's rookie-level affiliates went 0-4 on Thursday. Anderson Fermin (pictured) and D'Angelo Ortiz had productive days at the plate in the Florida Complex League, while Hector Ramos and Jhorman Bravo homered in the Dominican Summer League.

This game was called in the bottom of the eighth due to lightning. Dalvinson Reyes took the loss after allowing three earned runs on two hits (including one home run), one walk, and one strikeout in the first inning. Yoandys Veraza and Tejahari Wilson combined for five scoreless frames of relief. Offensively, D'Angelo Ortiz led the way by going 2 for 4 with one double and two RBIs. Anderson Fermin also doubled, drove in one run, scored another, and stole one base as part of a 2-for-4 day. Ilan Fernandez recorded two singles, while Avinson Pinto scored one run and swiped one base.

This game began on June 23 but was suspended in the bottom of the seventh due to lightning. Yander Bonaci got the start and went four innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Dariel Morillo, Wascar Berroa, and Ranci Castillo combined to give up five additional runs (three earned) in four-plus innings out of the bullpen. At the plate, Edwin Darville stood out by going 3 for 4 with one double, one RBI, one run scored, and one walk. Hector Ramos and Vladimir Asencio each went 1 for 3, with the former drawing two walks and scoring one run and the latter driving in one run, scoring another, and drawing one walk.

Oscar Vaamonde got the start in Thursday's regularly-scheduled contest and went 2 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Jainer Almanza took the loss out of the bullpen, while Morillo and Alexander Heredia combined for two scoreless frames of relief. Offensively, Ramos crushed a solo shot for his lone hit and third home run of the season. Eliezer Alfonzo went 1 for 3 with one triple, one RBI, one run scored, one walk, and one stolen base. Harold Rivas also scored one run, drew one walk, and stole one base.

Williams Montero took the loss in his seventh start for the Red squad, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and one strikeout over four innings. Robert Moreno surrendered two additional runs in the sixth. At the plate, Jhorman Bravo led off the game with his second home run of the season for his lone hit. Both Geomaikel Martinez and Gustavo Antunez doubled for their only hits. Givian Sirvania went 2 for 3 with his eighth stolen base of the year.

Player of the Day: Anderson Fermin gets the nod for reaching base twice on Thursday. The switch-hitting 18-year-old outfielder is now batting .292/.460/.392 with seven home runs, three triples, 14 RBIs, 31 runs scored, 23 stolen bases, 39 walks, and 34 strikeouts in 45 games (174 plate appearances) for the FCL Red Sox this season. He is currently ranked as the No. 55 prospect in the organization.
