Cup of Coffee: White homers twice; The Password stays hot

5/31 Cup of Coffee:
While we normally avoid using nicknames on the News page, Jhostynxon Garcia being a Jeopardy! clue will help this moniker stick. In Greenville, Hudson White (pictured) and Michael Sansone led the Drive to a sweep of its doubleheader.

The game was scoreless through seven, but the RailRiders prevailed in the battle of the bullpens. Cooper Criswell fired five shutout innings with six strikeouts, and Luis Guerrero and Zack Kelly also kept things scoreless in their innings. All the damage come off of Alex Hoppe in the eighth. Worcester left 11 men on base as it could not capitalize on its 10 hits. Yasmani Grandal went 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Jhostynxon Garcia stayed hot as he went 2 for 5 with a double. Tyler McDonough went 1 for 4 with a double, and Roman Anthony went 1 for 5 with a strikeout.

Portland Sea Dogs @ Altoona Curve (PIT), Suspended
Friday's game was suspended in the fifth inning as Portland held a 3-1 lead. It will be completed on Saturday.

A career-best day from Hudson White led the Drive in game one. White went 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBI, including a go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth. He also threw out the only Jersey Shore player that attempted a steal. Albert Feliz also went deep as part of a 1-for-3 game. Franklin Arias went 2 for 4 with a double, and Kolby Johnson went 2 for 3. Max Carlson allowed four runs in his four innings, but Adam Smith earned the win as he was nearly perfect in his three frames.

Six runs was enough to win in the second game as well, as Michael Sansone cruised to a victory. Sansone allowed only one run and three hits over six innings, striking out six and walking two. Cooper Adams closed things out with a spotless seventh. The bottom half of the order led the way in the nightcap. Nazzan Zanetello went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, Brooks Brannon went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI, and Andy Lugo went 1 for 3 with an RBI double.

Salem had its chances, but fell just short in a back-and-forth contest. Freili Encarnacion continued to shine, going 2 for 3 with a double and his 10th home run while driving in three. Andruw Musett went 2 for 4 with a two-run double, and Fraymi De Leon went 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, and two steals. Luis Cohen was stellar over the first five frames, but Jay Allmer was hit hard in his only inning of work.

-----

It was another impressive outing for Yhoiker Fajardo, as he lowered his ERA to 0.69. He allowed just an unearned run over three innings while tallying five strikeouts. The loss went to Madinson Frias who allowed two runs. The Red Sox manufactured two runs despite only having three hits. Anderson Fermin went 1 for 2 with a walk and three stolen bases. Yan Cruz went 1 for 3 with a double and a steal, and Yohander Linarez notched the team's only other hit with a fifth-inning single. Linarez replaced starter Ilan Fernandez who left with an injury.

Player of the Day: He only played in one of his team's two games, but Hudson White did enough in game one to win the award. He went 3 for 3 and launched two home runs. The 22-year-old was a ninth-round pick in 2024, and he has been splitting time with Brannon as the catcher for the Drive. White struggled mightily in April with a .444 OPS, but he has bounced back in May. He will enter the final day of the month with a line of .259/.354.481.
