April Players of the Month: Roman Anthony and Brandon Clarke

The first full month of the minor league season is in the books. As such, it is time to present the SoxProspects.com Players of the Month for April in outfielder Roman Anthony (pictured, left) and left-hander Brandon Clarke (pictured, bottom right). Both prospects are currently ranked within the organization's top 20, and each has shown why they are worthy of such high marks to begin the 2025 campaign.

Anthony entered the season with lofty expectations after establishing himself as one of baseball's premier prospects in 2024. The left-handed hitting 20-year-old took part in his first major league spring training and broke camp with Worcester in late March. From March 28 through the end of April, he batted a stout .292/.423/.539 with five doubles, one triple, five home runs, 14 RBIs, 21 runs scored, two stolen bases, 21 walks, and 23 strikeouts over 25 games (111 plate appearances). Following Sunday's series finale against Toledo, he is now slashing .305/.419/.514 through 29 games (129 plate appearances) in 2025. He currently leads the WooSox in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS (.933), and walk rate (17.1 percent).

Somewhat surprisingly, this marks the first time in which Anthony -- who turns 21 on May 13 -- has been recognized as a SoxProspects.com Player of the Month award winner. The former 2022 second-round compensatory draft pick out of Stoneman Douglas High School (Parkland, Fla.) is inching ever closer to making his big league debut with Boston, but is taking home some hardware in the meantime while maintaining his status as the organization's No. 1 prospect.

Clarke, in a similar fashion to Anthony, is also a first-time SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month award winner. The 22-year-old lefty did not make his professional debut until April 10 (his birthday) after being selected in the fifth round of last summer's draft out of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota. He has since forged a 0.63 ERA (1.52 FIP) with 24 strikeouts to two walks in four starts (14 2/3 innings) between Salem and Greenville to kick off the season. That includes fanning seven and allowing only one unearned run over 4 2/3 innings in his first outing at the High-A level last Wednesday.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Clarke throws from a three-quarters arm slot and incorporates a high leg kick into his delivery. The Virginia-born southpaw operates with a four-pitch mix that consists of a 96-99 mph fastball that tops out at 100 mph, an 87-90 mph slider, an 81-85 mph sweeper, and an 87-89 mph changeup. He is currently regarded as the No. 19 prospect in Boston's farm system, which ranks ninth among pitchers in the organization.
